MINNEAPOLIS
Some of the pills taken from Prince's estate in Paisley Park after his death were counterfeit drugs that actually contained fentanyl a synthetic opioid 50 times more powerful than heroin, an official close to the investigation said Sunday.
The official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, said nearly two dozen pills found in one Aleve bottle were falsely labeled as "Watson 385." According to Drugs.com, that stamp is used to identify pills containing a mix of acetaminophen and hydrocodone, but the official said at least one of the pills tested positive for fentanyl.
Autopsy results released in June show Prince died April 21 of an accidental fentanyl overdose. The official who spoke to the AP said records show the 57-year-old Prince had no prescription for any controlled substances in the state of Minnesota in the 12 months before he died.
Authorities are still investigating how Prince obtained the drugs.

If it were easy, everyone would do it. But that won’t stop the flood of piousness on this thread.
Prince’s personal life was pretty difficult: a son that only lived for a few weeks, hip replacement surgery.. Etc. All the while being incredibly prolific. I’m not excusing anything, just saying sometimes is not as black and white as “just a junkie looking for a fix.”
I don’t fool myself into thinking that I could do it...
I’m kinda’ sick of hearing all this crap about a jackass drug addict.
I hate to say he was part of the non-Christian Jehovah’s Witness cult. They deny the trinity, the deity of Christ, and the resurrection, among other unbiblical beliefs.
I have never heard Prince called a jackass. Not even once. I wonder where the other three fingers are pointing?
Yeah....one pill in a bottle. Good possibility. Motive and opportunity time.
At least he died doing something he loved. :>o
Presuming you meant weed, not alcohol.
But he made music that will be remembered 20-50 years from now and so will he. So he did very well and lots better than you and me. Who will remember you in 50 years? BTW not a fan. I liked 10% of his music but they guy was a tremendous talent. I saw him charm a TV audience eight years ago just himself with a guitar. He was an incredible guitarist.
I wouldn’t know ONE song he did.
Actually, it was the AIDS.
Both, at the same time. Seen it happen, many times. Plop!
But others do which renders you and me irrelevant. Prince and his music will be honored 50 years from now.
He wasnt dealing. He was buying for personal use to help him with pain because his hips were at a point where he wasnt able to walk pain free.
...
Yep, and from what I read he didn’t get hip replacement surgery because he was a Jehovah’s Witness. So he wasn’t a druggie, but someone who was a in a lot of pain due to his beliefs.
Unfortunately, alcohol can kill by way of overdose.
What is wrong with you?
Well, yeah, but you’ve gotta work at it, and it usually involves the hard stuff, straight. Yuck.
I think he must have gotten hooked after surgery.
“But others do which renders you and me irrelevant. Prince and his music will be honored 50 years from now.”
Exactly.
when you're famous, the black market comes to you.
