Someday, you won't be able to get one. Course, if ya can't afford an AR, go out and purchase a good long barrel shotgun. 12ga. 3 1/2” ultra mag., much cheaper and can handle shells from 2 3/4”, 3” and 3 1/2” inch.
#2 goose shot to 00 buck.
Bottom line AR...roughly $900, 12ga. shotgun...around $400.
If long range is your preference: An AR in .308.
BTW, most firefights take place inside 250 yards.
I don’t own an AR but love my Ruger Ranch Rifle. The libs are okay with that. (Wink wink)
AR15 variants are fine precision weapons but may require more maintenance than the casual gun owner can provide. I’d go with the AK47 variants over the AR15s for a newbie. I will say though, even with iron sights an AR15 variant is amazingly accurate and fun to shoot. Get it if you want, it’s a free country and the more who own these the more free we will be. Dress it up like a Barbie doll with all the toys. Give a name and learn it inside out. Have fun and safe shooting.
Yes.
There.
That settles it.
I have heard it said that you don’t need a gun-you need at least four. A pistol, a shotgun, a bolt action rifle, and an AR or similar style rifle. With these, you can handle any recreational shooting and SHTF scenario.
I have one of the ‘old’ and one of the ‘new’.
Both are Colts - a 1970-71 SP1 and a LE6920.
The SP1 has the triangular grip, the bullet tip sights, NO shell deflector and no forward assist. It is exactly like the M-16 I shot with in the AF basic training in 1968 except for the select fire lever.
The LE6920? Full up. All I’ve really ever done with it is to swap out the ejection port cover with one that has some Arabic script laser etched to it on the inside and the translation “Infidel”.
We like our M1 carbine.
“The AR-15 chambered in 5.56mm/.223 are good starter long rifles for the majority of shooters that just plink at the range. Its not my first choice for most tasks (hunting, self-defense, long range), but it shoots soft and flies flat.”
Agree. What is not commonly known by the leftist, effete anti-gun glitterati is that the 5.56/.223 round is illegal in many states for deer and other large animal hunting. It’s lacking in first shot knock down power. So, I always roll my eyes when these idiots rant about these “powerful” weapons have no business in private hands.
You should find a way. They aren't terribly expensive. A decent base model can be had for little over $500. It's all the "tacticool" accessories that come later that takes a bite to the wallet.
No. You should own several.
One? Hahahaha! You should own four, two for self defense, one long range and one tricked out any other way you want to trick it out. Or so I heard. I only have one. I'm way behind the eight ball. Suckers are expensive. Especially when you start talking about glass, lights, etc.
His/Her and sons and daughters packages?
EASY answer! YES! Now more than EVER. And an AK too! Before they are BANNED.
I need something that doesn’t kick too hard.
My right shoulder is shot.
Any suggestions?
Then I’d say the AR-15 is about the most acceptable recoil. In-line reaction muzzle to shoulder, direct gas impingement to the bolt and a bolt buffer tube and spring in the stock.....pretty manageable - I have a video of my little teenaged daughter shooting mine....she handled it quite well.
FYI : Google “BUMP FIRE AR15 YouTube videos” All M4 or AR’s a capable of rapid fire thru this technic .
Absolutely not.
You should own several. Shorty for home or breach, stsndard for everyday, and heavy bull for long distance calls. At a minimum.
Ammo? Take your Costco forklift down to Cabelas. Duh.
Thanks gaffer.
Short answer no. Easy answer is AR-10. If s
something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right.
