U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was crisscrossing Texas this week, meeting with constituents in Houston, El Paso, San Antonio, Laredo, Amarillo, Lubbock, Dallas and Tyler. It wasnt how Cruz had once hoped to be spending the second week of August, when, had things gone his way, he might have been hopscotching battleground states as the Republican nominee for president.
Instead, it was Donald Trump with rallies and speeches in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida and Pennsylvania Donald Trump, who Cruz refused to endorse for president in his speech at the Republican National Convention in July, and who, the day after he accepted the nomination in Cleveland, said he would not accept Cruzs endorsement if it were offered and swore he would spend what he could to defeat Cruz for re-election.
And so, Cruz found himself doing what a U.S. senator does during the August recess, particularly a senator who is up for a second term in two years and who, for the first time in his swift rise in Texas and national politics, finds himself not the hunter but the prey.
I know there are people looking for someone to run against Ted Cruz because Ive had four or five national leaders call to ask if I had an interest, which I dont by the way, said former Texas Republican Party Chairman Steve Munisteri, who added that Cruzs traversing Texas is exactly what he ought to be doing right now.
Among Republicans being recruited to challenge Cruz, according to a recent CNN story, is U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, a six-term congressman from Austin who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee. McCaul spokesman Walter Zaykowski said the congressman is focused on his job and re-election campaign this year but he did not rule out a Senate run.

I supported Cruz for Senate back when I still had to explain to Texans who he was.
Then his titanic ego led him to imagine he could play the saviour of the Constitution by swatting aside its Art.II NBC requirement. [Burn the village to save the village?]
I will not vote for Cruz for anything unless I see a public statement from him that he is in fact NOT a Natural Born Citizen and that he will never run for President again.
I am not going to hold my breath.
This Texan will support the strongest candidate against him in the Primary. That simple.
Carne guisada is probably as hard to come by in dp0622's neck of the woods as it is out here.
He'll never do such a thing.
Ted is a Dominionist.
He's been chosen by God to lead this country.
He was right to stiff Trump, and the people at the convention were wrong to boo him.
McCaul, George P. Bush, Perry, could all split the vote to let TCruz back in, but it will require a runoff.
I am another Texan who will never vote again for Ted Cruz.
The article hit the nail on the head. Cruz ran for the Senate in the first place only so he could run for president four years later, and he’s going to have a problem convincing people that he wants to be re-elected so he can now be a Senator. A decent opponent should be able to defeat Cruz in the primary.
Got to wonder who are the “ national leaders” looking for a replacement for Cruz
Austin is full of RATs and don’t believe anything that comes out of Austin, Texas. My family is in Texas and they tell me Cruz is TOAST.
I had no problem with Cruz going after Trump...that’s what primaries are for. Going after Trump’s backers calling them low information, ignorant, etc. was one of his biggest mistakes.
I’m afraid Cruz will luz! Because, he is the “king of voterless states”!
Cruz’ problem is that half the people who would have naturally voted for him, for the most part, will now not vote for him under any circumstances. Cruz destroyed himself. Any chance he thinks he has for POTUS is delusional. If a good candidate runs against him for Senate, he’ll be very lucky if he can pull that off.
I would love to see Perry replace Ted and go to the Senate.
Cruz grinning and posing with his new bff, the Ready for Hillary gang:

“Im afraid Cruz will luz! Because, he is the king of voterless states!”
No doubt! He showed his true colors. I am another Texan who will NEVER vote for him again.....he lies and pontificates with great ease...and I heard he was trying to change the election rules so that next time the system can be rigged even more! NO WAY JOSE CRUZ!
My wife is still wondering about the $500,000 of hush money given to the Carly campaign. My wife wonders if her Cruz donation went to cover up his cheating on Heidi with Carly’s chief of Staff.
We feel that he was a bit too indignant about Trump’s going after Heidi, after of course Mike Roe purchased with campaign funds nude body studies of Ms. Melania Knaus before she was with DJT, and just a supermodel on the job.
Roe has a history of being a slimeball. I guess it takes a slimeball Roe to know a Cheater Cruz.
Donations to Cruz campaign used most unwisely, one reason he lost so badly. Aside from his stealing delegates, F-ing Doc Carson, holding voterless caucuses.
Once a Cruz donor, now we are #NeverCruzers
Ted, as good as dead. As a native Texan I’d be ashamed to ever vote for this frosty Canadian again, little lone tell anyone I was for him. Ted should hide his head, in shame, under a paper bag, in the toilet, where ever.
As a new Texas resident, I eagerly await the opportunity to do the same along side you!
