Where are the bumper stickers?
American Thinker ^ | August 10, 2016 | Inge Kummant

Something strange is going on in Ohio. There don't seem to be any bumper stickers. I drive almost 100 miles a day on a major four-lane highway in northern Ohio. In the last two weeks, I saw one Trump bumper sticker in the parking lot of a grocery store, one Trump window-cling on a pickup truck on the highway, and one "I heart Hillary" bumper sticker at a rest stop. That's it. Four years ago, in August 2012, Romney and Obama bumper stickers were plentiful. It's a similar story with yard signs. A handful of Trump signs sprouted up during the primary – rarely more than one or two per small town, and often none at all. I have yet to see a Hillary sign. Last week, as the media piled on Trump following the Democrat convention, I'd had enough, and I pasted a "Trump, Make America Great Again" and a "Never Hillary" bumper sticker (from the Rush Limbaugh website) on my 2002 SUV. Maybe I was also inspired by a classic rock station that reminded this elderly boomer of how it felt to be "Born to Be Wild." My 18-year-old self would have been contemptuous of giving in to fear. I hadn't really been worried about getting my car vandalized, but I was worried about social ostracism by the Democrats in my neighborhood. p>

IIRC it was a Rock Hudson movie “Something of Value” with Sidney Poitier about tribal uprising. I remember this movie as a boy, vividly - before I ever associated what black/white meant here in this country. Violence and savagery is what I remember.

There may be a black connection but my intent was to more appropriately connect it to ignorant savagery than anything else.

Besides, with the gay (Rock Hudson) and the black (Poitier) thing consider, I’m standing on my comment. It can be removed, whatever.....I said what I said.

I have stuck at home pretty much for the last couple of months but when I do get out I don’t see many bumper stickers at all. I have a Never Hillary sticker but I have a new Tahoe and I don’t want to get it keyed.

Bingo! When Bush was running for a second term, I had slapped a Bush sticker on a magnet and would put it on and take it off to keep my car to keep it from being vandalized.

That’s exactly what we used to do! We don’t dare use bumper stickers any more at all, for fear of being followed and vandalized or harassed even if you take it off. The other day I was behind a dump truck with ‘Trump” written in giant chalk letters across the back. I have seen a few Trump yard signs but no stickers, and a few Hillary stickers but no yard signs.

I was going to buy two bumper stickers for Trump. Two for 5 bucks but shipping was 6.97.

Wow, I guess the price of stamps has really gone up.

I live in the City of Cincinnati; I’ve seen one Hillary sign...yes, ONE.

Looked like a liberal’s house, too..vines and plants all over the house, a carpenter ant nightmare from a distance. The Prius was missing, however.

Most of the guys in my crew are for Trump. I know of no one that is for Hillary. Now keep in mind, most vote Republican anyway.

Of course the national leadership is all for Hillary.

My niece had two Trump signs stolen from her front yard.

I saw my first Trump bumper sticker on car yesterday.

I saw a couple of Hillary bumper stickers about a year ago but nothing since.

This is in Central Ohio.

Thanks, FRiend.

My gut feeling is that most working people understand that Trump will be better than them than Hillary ever will be.

Legalize the use of deadly force by people who catch oxygen thieves keying their car or slashing their tires.

That photo as you noted could be a scenario in America if Clinton is elected, and we have no guns, concealed or not to protect us and our family.

Elect Clinton and she appoints 2-3 Supremes. Then, they destroy our second amendment, our nightmare really begins.

I doubt that anyone ever decided to vote for a candidate because of a yard sign or bumper sticker. Sure, it shows who you like but is also an open invitation for someone to vandalize your property, your or your family members.

When I see a Hillary yard sign here, I can be sure that the occupant of the home is:

- a unionized public employee, OR
- a public school teacher, OR
- some other sort of Democrat hack/hanger-on/apparatchik

To the extent that you see any yard signs, Trump surprisingly appears ahead.

That’s so true of the Chicago area as well!

It is a definite identifier!

I talked to a fellow Monday that has had 6 Trump signs and most recently a Trump flag stolen from his yard in our small town.

He suspects the old Crazy Cat Cady Hillary supporter that lives a couple houses down.

I told him to invest in a trail camera. Turns out, the cops told him the same thing.

I have never put a bumper sticker on my car or it's bumper. Looks tacky. Besides whenever I see a car with bumper stickers on it, my first reaction is that they are liberals. Because there are usually twenty of them, if there's one, on the rear bumper and trunk promoting every wacko issue in the liberal realm.

And why would you want to advertise to every stranger out there what you think or who you're voting for? I don't mind telling people who ask in a private conversation who I'm supporting but to broadcast it to all kinds of kooks out there in the world is not the same thing. Risky at best.

Same thing for the lawn signs. People are nervous about their safety in regards to support for Mr. Trump.

America today has more college students than ever and we must have the most uninformed or ignorant people in the world. It seems as though young people are walking around in a daze and older folks are just wanting something for the moment. It appears no one is any longer looking for the future. I am 77 years of age and my life has been pretty fulfilling but I do worry about my children and grandchildren they are in for a bad time and rude awakening.
