Republican officials are exploring how to handle a scenario that would be unthinkable in a normal election year: What would happen if the party's presidential nominee dropped out?

ABC News has learned that senior party officials are so frustrated — and confused — by Donald Trump's erratic behavior that they are exploring how to replace him on the ballot if he drops out.

So how would it work?

“what about if HilLIARy drops out? or gets indicted?”

I put it to you that the Constitution leaves it to the states to decide who the Electors representing them will be. And AFAIK the slates of Electors are set by a date certain in each state, and the names on the ballot are merely fronts, or labels, for the names on the corresponding slates of electors.

Thus, if Hillary (or Trump) were to drop out late, her (his) name would be on the ballot but, as usual, a vote for Hillary would really be a vote for the slate of electors pledged to vote for her. The only problem, therefore, would be that the Electors pledged to Hillary would have to agree, nationwide, on a candidate all would vote for. That would be moot if, please God, a patriot gained a majority of the EVs. But otherwise, the Electors would seemingly be free agents since their pledge to vote for someone no longer a candidate would be moot. Therefore, the real problem would be their need for near unanimity to attain the absolute majority. Failing that, the election would devolve to the House of Representatives, with each state delegation having one vote. That provision is important because even if the Republicans lost the majority of representatives, for structural reasons they are almost certainly a lock to control a majority of the Congressional delegations of the states. I.e., Democrats have large delegations from a relatively small number of states.

Interestingly, altho the Pennsylvania Republicans haven’t been able to elect a slate of electors for POTUS for decades they consistently dominate the Pa. congressional delegation. This is due to a natural gerrymander effect. Democrat voters tend to concentrate in cities, and that means that a natural political subdivision such as the city of Chester, Pa. would logically have a Democrat representative who wins very easily. In less urban areas, there are Republican-leaning majorities all over the place - so you would have to really intentionally gerrymander in favor of Democrats to make the state congressional delegation come out majority Democrat.

Or the alternative when Satan finally weds his wife.

It’s simple.

If he drops out, Hillary wins by default. States controlled by Democrats will throw up so many ballot roadblocks in front of the replacement guy won’t be able to get 70 electoral votes.

I listened to Trump’s son’s speech. He said his dad felt he had to make this run to save the country. I believe the son. He won’t let us down. He will save the GOP in spite of itself. Get rid of the Rinos.

This is nothing but lying propagandistic frauds trying to create a new meme... they think if they push these articles out there the subject can take on a life of its own, and then “everyone” is talking about it so it must be a real topic. Utter b.s.
