According to
another S. Korean news report, the general in question was in charge of collecting money earned from N. Korean restaurants and construction works in South East Asia and Southern China, and sending it to Office No. 39 of N. Korea's ruling party, which manages Kim Jong-un's slush fund. It said that, when he escaped, he took $40 million with him.

This general is a big fish unlike restaurant attendants or high school math prodigy who defected earlier. It is more politically sensitive. So it is not clear if Chinese will let him go as in earlier cases. It all depends on China whether he makes it out to another country or is sent back to N. Korea.

The source said that the four North Koreans decided to leave their country due to their dissatisfaction with the Kim Jong-un regime and pessimistic views about the future of the country. Plus what is there to spend $40 million on in North Korea?

That’s a lot of fish heads.

Bring him here, I bet he’s got a lot to reveal, but I assume B. Hussein would want to protect his hero Kim Jong Un.

They all must hate their wives, children and extended famlies. But 40 million can do that to a person.

better than waiting around in NK to find out when he’s gonna be executed with an anti-aircraft gun.

If you knew it was coming...$40 million and taking your chances in China is better than being shot with an anti-aircraft gun.

I heard he had to drag his luggage, not filled with stacks of money, but suit cases filled with his medals that he couldn’t find a place for on his uniform.

It sounds likely that the $40 mil is genuine.
That would be my guess.
