Whats the most common age of sex-offenders?
Its not a trick question, but unless you follow this stuff closely youll almost certainly answer wrong.
In fact, most people are shocked to learn that the most common age of people charged with a sex offense isnt a creepy 39, or 51.
Its 14.
Thats right. As the US Bureau of Justice reports: The single age with the greatest number of offenders from the perspective of law enforcement was age 14.
Why so young? Because people tend to have sex with people around their own age, which means young people tend to have sex with other young people. And much under-age sex is illegal.
So we keep throwing kids on the registry and labeling them sex offenders, as if theyre incorrigible monsters. But in Britain, a study recently commissioned by Parliament has recommended a totally different course: Trying to understand, treat and refrain from labeling the kids, since children often make mistakes as they start to understand their sexuality and experiment with it.
What happens when we turn teens and even tweens into sex offenders?
The punishment and stigma can follow them for years, even decades. A study by Human Rights Watch gave the example of Jacob, a boy found guilty of inappropriately touching his sister when he was 11.
Because this got him placed on the sex offender registry, he was not allowed to live near other children, including siblings. So he was sent to live in a juvenile home, and eventually placed with foster parents.
Now 26, Jacob is still on the sex-offender registry, still unable to live near a school, playground or park.

And Bill Clinton...walks worry free.
I believe, if simple exposure or truly consenting sex and only done once, that these should be lifted after being served.
Cop a feel in junior high and your life could be wrecked.
In a way I am all for it. now that the “Precedent” has been established, we need a “PUBLIC LIARS LIST”. All public Servants that have been found to have made deliberate false statements to anyone during the course of their official actions or professional duties,
Shall be placed on the Public Liars List,
All Public Liars shall be prohibited from being within 1000 yards of ANY CHILD or Place where Children congregate.
The fact is, if the police were 100% effective in catching people who violated these laws, almost everyone would be on the sex offender registry.
Any law that would make almost the entire population criminals if they could enforce it effectively is a bad law.
The one I really like is the 18 year old having consensual sex with his 17 year old girlfriend and getting a rape conviction and lengthy sentence.
Seriously? You’re worried about this?
Yeah, diddle your little sister, like “Jacob,” or Josh Duggar, and you may find yourself unwanted at parks and public swimming pools.
I worked in the PA DOC and there was some crooks that got charged for that exact issue. They dated girls and when they pissed off the parents they got turned in and nothing they could do about it!
Not long ago, a teenage boy took off all is clothes and ran across a football field during a game as a prank. After learning he would be charged with lewdness and indecent exposure, which would have landed him on the sex offender registry for the rest of his life, he committed suicide.
You know, because "patriarchy" and "rape culture."
And narrative.
That's horrible. The system is truly broken. It's destroyed compassion in the legal realm.
We could try common sense on a case by case basis. But then the Feds wouldn’t be able to nit pick and exercise ultimate power - won’t work.
The old line 15 will get you 20, was spot on then, and now.
15 what? Your reply to the other poster has no relevance.
Go back and read some history as well, 15 was a marrying age back when there was decency. Today, a 15 y/o girl will treat an older guy like “sport”. There is a reason the term DILF is now in fashion and its not because the older guys are out looking for prey. Its the other way around.
/note for you, I live in a rural part of PA and had a youngin calling me “her soon to be DILF” at the super market. I stopped going their immediately.
Exactly what is the US Bureau of Justice?
The authors stats don’t match any of the known stats on sex offenders.
She cites an anecdotal story from Human Rights Watch....as far left a group as you could want
In Calufornis for example in order to qualify for sex offender status there has to be a specific age difference if the perpetrator is a juvenile.
This is an effort by some on the left to get us to the point where pedophilia will become acceptable
Back in the “day” when a 15 year old was marrying age, it was a different world.
Many of these “marriages” and the approval by the parents of said marriage were about money/family.
A wealthy older man would marry a 15 year old girl who was from a family of wealth herself. The intent of both families was to increase/preservation of wealth and standing for the families. In many cases they were business transactions/mergers as much as marriages.
Obviously, this was not all marriages at that time and there are many examples contrary. But, it was not the “arm candy” mentality now popular among men of wealth today.
I live in rural Western NY, and am familiar with the “DILF” thing. From what I have noticed (not an empirical fact, just observation) is that these girls are doing the DILF thing not for sex, but for the baby daddy. You’re older, and she can, and will sue you for child support, and you have the means to pay, and pay you will.
Pedophilia is about prepubescent children. It has nothing to do with this issue.
This isn’t an issue. Check your state laws. If there is not an age differential component for juvenile offenders then you may want to get busy. This should not be handled by the feds
