Americans viewing the recent failed coup attempt in Turkey as some exotic foreign news story -- the latest, violent yet hardly unusual political development to occur in a region constantly beset by turmoil -- should pause to consider that the prospect of similar instability would not be unfathomable in this country if Donald Trump were to win the presidency.

IF there were a writer with that much courage and IF he could get it past an editor, the writer would be ridiculed, his home destroyed, his wife and children would be terrorized and his dog would wind up dead on the front porch.
And our men and women in blue!
The true story is in the comments. :)
I don’t know who the LA Times thinks would militarily support a coup. Dept of homoland security maybe.
President Donald John Trump, President of the United States
They’ll field an army of snoowflakes..
TRUE STORY:
My father worked at the PSFS building in downtown Philadelphia for 38 years. Some time around Christmas 1970 he was walking to get the train home and saw an old black woman walking down Market Street with a gun over her shoulder. (She was struggling to keep the gun slung over her big winter coat.) My father asked if he could help her. In the conversation that ensued she told my father that she entered every contest she could find. She apparently entered a contest at a local sporting goods store and won a brand new 30:06! She told my father that she had no idea what she or anyone in her family would do with a hunting rifle. He offered to relieve her of the rifle for all the cash in his wallet($60!). She told him it was his. He proceed to get on a SEPTA train and brings it home.
NO ONE bat an eye in 1970 at any of this.
I want that country back.

Fascinating! I was still in Philly at that time. I don't think our beat cops in Tacony/Frankford would have tolerated that. They loved asserting their "authority".

LOL! If Trump were to lead a coup/revolution to take the Nation back, many would crawl through 100 yards of broken glass to reach his side. With him at the helm, the People won’t need to rise up except to stop BLM/New Black Panthers/Terrorists fro having their way - and he may end up in the trenches with the People.
If there was no coup when Obama was elected, there won’t be one.
Uh, no, don’t think so. But thanks for playing.
It is a reliable source of amusement to hear soft-handed coffee-house revolutionaries call for blood in the streets and find out later that they faint at the sight of it. This one, though, is unusually amusing. Why, precisely, the election of a popular President should engender a coup is a bit of a mystery other than the fact that the author appears to have a vivid fantasy life surrounding him that bears an uncanny resemblance to popular video games. Who would accomplish the coup is equally mysterious. How they would keep from being perforated repeatedly by an outraged public is perhaps the biggest mystery of all.
As others have already mentioned, no coup against the likes of Barack Hussein 0bama is a fairly reliable indication of just how tolerant the American public turns out to be. That toleration is a function of the promise of venting and adjustment every four years, denial of which is likely to prove about as safe as trying to confine a nuclear explosive in a garbage can. The author has no idea of what he's advocating or the consequences thereof, and this sort of stuff belongs in the more obscure corners of a student newspaper next to the comics section.
the next time some lib prediction comes to fruition will be the first time.
The author and his employer are idiots.
If the criminal Hillary wins there could be a coup or a civil war. Trump isn’t a treasonous criminal who gave away our secrets and took millions in payoffs from foreign governments.
We have had coups before. November 22 1963 comes to mind.
The military as a whole, is not as leftist as you might think from seeing what comes out of both the civilian leadership and the generals, far too many careerist cowards. I was rank and file for 20+ years, including the Carter malaise, so I do have a sense of the soldier. No coups of leftists, I assure you.
I think so.
If Trump has such temperament, how did he build his business empire, and with overwhelmingly supportive employees?
