CNN had two different people on who said Ted Cruz will not be endorsing Cruz in his speech. The one reporter said that Ted Cruz anticipates running for President in 2020 if Trump loses and wants to show his sympathies with the Never Trump movement who has supported him.
This is just as I feared when Ted was asked to speak. Trump was kind enough to ask him, but I worried that Ted would use this speech to pad his own resume, to preach to his base, to audition for 2020. Ted should not be permitted to use this speech for his own ambitions.
Ted Cruz has allowed the Never Trump movement, with many of the members (at least the ones I see on Twitter) as Cruz supporters, to fester. He allowed the division and the attempts to free the delegates, ignoring the will of the people. That chaos on the floor the other day? Led by Cruz allies/delegates!
Ted Cruz has refused to honor a pledge that he signed, that he would have expected Trump to honor. Ted knows that his endorsement may encourage some of his supporters to vote for Trump. Ted also knows it might push some of his supporters away, the ones who would call it a betrayal. Ted is staying with the ones who would call it a betrayal.
If Ted is a true conservative, 4 years of Hillary and her stacking the court would be unthinkable. If Ted is a true Republican, he would want a Republican to win. It seems he is putting his political ambitions first. It's good for Ted Cruz (in his mind) if Trump doesn't win, but it's certainly not good for our country. I don't think it will be good for Ted either. He just doesn't realize now that 14 million Trump voters won't forget how he conducted himself.
Ted's spot should be revoked in an ideal world. Unfortunately, I think the media fallout if Trump revokes and party division with Cruz supporters who are reluctantly voting for Trump would be a problem at this point. He'll be allowed to speak, and I think he should have never been offered the slot.
Maybe CNN has absolutely blown this and will have egg on their face tomorrow. Maybe their sources will be wrong or maybe Ted will change his mind. If Ted does endorse Trump, I think opinions on him would improve.
Ted Cruz: The ‘principled conservative’ who helped give Iran $150 billion dollars.
Oily Felito is right.
hey Ted, or team Cruz, if you’re reading this ...
... free speech advice ...
“Fellow Republicans, as you know, our great country has been brought to a very bad place by eight years of the current administration. Now we face a choice in America, to go down that same road for four more years, with a new president who might in fact be even less willing to respect the Constitution, or, to choose a new beginning and the opportunity to begin a rebuilding period, that might easily require four presidential terms to complete.
“And many of us contested this nomination because we felt that we could do better than the Democrats and give this nation that we all love so much better leadership. It was a hard fought contest. Donald Trump won that contest, and has been duly nominated. In the process, he earned more votes than any candidate has ever received in a primary season.
“I have thanked my supporters, and I am grateful for the votes that I received. But politics requires us to be good losers as well as gracious winners. For the country that I love, and that you love, and that Donald Trump loves, I will pledge my support and do whatever I can do, wherever I am asked to go, to do my part to ensure that Hillary Clinton is defeated in November. Nothing else matters, we all know this, and it is time for unity.”
(thanks, cheque to Peter O’Donnell)
You would think.
The NeverTrumpers or holdout Cruz supporters really have no excuses anymore. Their main gripe was Trump wasn't conservative enough for them (they even bought in to the left's liberal narrative of Trump, later pushed by Cruz).
Well, all they have to do is look just how conservative the party platform is. That wouldn't have happened without the people AND Donald Trump.
Ted Cruz really has no excuses if he is a true conservative and looks at the party platform. The only thing Cruz has proved so far is he has lined up with the frauds of the Republican Party.
CGato
Cruz is a CINO and out for himself ONLY! He's a damned conman with an oversized ego, for NO reason at all.
Our military is already decimated and we’d have only a sort of military under Hillary. :-(
NO way I’m going to sit out this election. Too much at stake. And Trump is a breath of fresh air, even with his flaws, which everybody has.
Politics makes ugly people out of Freepers and others. Why not extend to Cruz the same grace you extend to Trump? That’s all I’m saying. Some people are just not happy unless they are crashing and burning SOMEBODY’s life. For that matter, why was Michelle Obama’s speech terrible when she gave it but wonderful when Melania said much the same stuff? It’s all people deciding who’s in and who’s out, and everything else not mattering. It’s what the Bible calls “party spirit” - people looking for reasons to speak/think badly about others, quick to speak and slow to listen. It’s the unwillingness to listen and truly think and process facts that will doom this country in the end, and it’s just as common with Freepers as with anybody else. That’s all I’m saying.
A person has only to look at the responses to my post to see exactly what I’m talking about. I am not the enemy, but it sure feels good to try to trash me because I’m not rah-rahing all the trash-talk against Cruz here. I and my family bear in our bodies the scars from fighting the coup of 2008. A lot of people who get trashed here can say the same thing - including former candidates and other politicians as well as anonymous Freepers. But that doesn’t matter, when the chance to do some feel-good, friendly-fire trash-talk arises. Burn all the bridges you can, ‘cause you don’t need anybody else, don’t need the rest of the country in it together in order to save a once-great nation. That attitude sucks, and the selective grace/Bible talk gets old really quickly.
My sin here is extending to Cruz the same grace as I have received and extend to both Trump and Cruz.
Trump and Cruz have both broken promises. So have I and so have you. Why is Cruz the only one who isn’t allowed to change his mind? The hypocrisy here is just a little more than I can swallow with a smile.
I think it will be a non-endorsement endorsement of Trump: work hard to defeat Hillary.
The New York delegation and CNN don’t think it was an endorsement.
I look at it as an indirect endorsement. Cruz said basically this — vote up and down the Republican ticket and drive the Democrats out of office.
This would imply voting for Trump and Pence.
I know it sounded less than enthusiastic. It probably was. But there is logic behind the conclusion, so Vulcans in every state can live long and prosper by voting Trump.
A donor would know that, except for those who opt to remain anonymous, there is a page that shows the donors each quarter and others for monthly donors, those who donate $300 or more a year, etc.
You are either an anonymous donor or a non-donor.
If I'm jumping to conclusions, I apologize. If you're just blustering to hide the fact that you're a FReeloader who donates to neither FR or a candidate, I, once again, urge you to at least use this link:
I take it that your non-reply is an indication that I didn't really jump to conclusions but sized you up correctly - one who makes noise but invests nothing toward any worthwhile cause......
Here's a Ted Cruz opportunity to redeem yourself: Donate to FR
Or, you can opt to double down like he did and renounce what was left of his credibility.
No, I just make it a habit to ignore fools...

You're a happy little Pharisee, aren't you?
Funny to use a religious slant when shirking your own duties.
Thank you for confirming my initial impression of you.
LOL! You have also confirmed my assessment of you.
I agree I should have offered to match some FR donations in a private message so as not to cause twinges of guilt in those such as yourself.
Here's another biblical concept: He who will not work (invest of himself) should not eat (partake in what others produce/pay for).
Reply or not - I'm done wasting time with you.
