As dawn broke in Istanbul on Saturday, Turkey's largest city, it was still unclear whether an attempt by the military to wrest control from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had been successful.
A defiant Erdogan addressed crowds in the city, telling them that the coup had been quashed. "The government is in control," he told supporters.

A US military analyst and a former member of the Turkish Parliament both just stated on Fox News that Erdogan will likely go down a more authoritarian path and that this process will repeat itself and he will go down in flames with the entire military uniting and overthrowing him.

No that is not the case as they have had several coups and even Erdogan’s critics did not want to go down that path but will eventually go down that way again.
Yep and I bet Putin will work hard to ensure that it happens like the one he facilitated in Egypt.
21st century coup requirements:
1) Arrest or kill head of state.
2) Control or jam broadcast media.
3) Take down cell service.

I agree, seems all too convenient with Erdogan on vacation but able to rally the masses via his iPhone. This was a setup to take down the military who has the constitutional authority to remove Islamist dictators like Erdogan.
Skinning alive is one method, and the prison at Sinope is filled with Medieval instruments of persuasion including the Iron Maiden, thumbscrews, ear-cups (for pouring molten lead into ears) - all of which are used on political prisoners as Sinope is a prison province.
Expect Estrogen to consolidate his powers and become the new “strongman” of Anatolia pushing a descent into extreme Islam and eventual total national collapse.

The Turkish military is fiercely secular, considering themselves the torchbearer for Atatürk's revolution. It is Erdoğan, who is basically supporting ISIS, who is increasingly bringing Islamism into Turkey. Sadly, he is doing this with broad popular support.
Same here. My belief was reenforced when Obama and Kerry came out against it as I can always trust that they'll be on the wrong side of every issue.
