The trip will highlight the "globalization of police brutality," activists say.
As protests continue throughout the country over the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, the latest African-American men to die at the hands of police, a coalition of Black Lives Matter activists will take their movement to a new place next week: Rio de Janeiro.
It's the latest effort to expand the Black Lives Matter message across the globe, and it comes at an important time. With less than a month to go before Rio hosts the 2016 Olympic Games, the activists hope they can take advantage of the spectacle to highlight the citys rising levels of police violence and connect with Brazilian activists who are fighting a similar struggle.
"Police brutality is global. And Brazil has its own form of ruthlessness," Daunasia Yancey, the founder of Black Lives Matters Boston chapter, told The Huffington Post. "The movement that came before and during and after Ferguson has been really intentional about a global struggle and understanding that our freedoms are all tied to each other."

Um...going down to Brazil to (1) complain about police behavior, and (2) embarrass the host country - I’m just hoping the idiot who thought this is a good idea is traveling with them.
Well, I was thinking of Brazil when I wrote that. Brazilian police are not likely to let the agitators get away with much, especially when the country needs every dime of tourist cash it can get.
And I obviously misunderstood because the USA CODDLES them like babies.
I’m HOPING that will all change soon.
And boy are you right about Brazil. Maybe they’ll get rid of some of them for us.
Is this picture photoshopped?
Don’t think so. That formerly fancy condo tower isn’t doing very well either, over half the pools are neglected.
Great idea, pendejos...
I don’t think the BLM leaders have done much research on this plan to disrupt a major event in a f’ing foreign country-one that is not exactly known for treating disruptors very well...
I wonder if they’ll get fancy seats to the venues.
Watch for the off-duty officers down there..
Seriously, how much more fame can an athlete get than the Olympics? But no, black Olympians want to play the poor downtrodden card.
I’m sure they’ll eventually head to Africa and free the 20 million slaves there.
Definitely a room with a view.
That is likely when you consider that they are not paying the tab.
I can’t wait to see how the “you can’t touch me, I got rights, and I’m an American” argument plays out for the Brazilian police. The sheer stupidity of these people. They are so used to abusing their precious rights they take for granted. They have NO concept that those don’t extend beyond the borders. The opportunity for life lessons is going to be epic.
Yeah, they aren't doing this on their own. Many will back out when they're told they need shots.
Look at a BLM rally. Count the # of white people. It’s more than you think.
There’ no chance of not hating them so I dont bother praying for it :)
Believe me, after attending college and working in Manhattan, i’ve lost count of dumb white people.
It’ll be whitey’s fault for buying up all the fancy seats 4 years ago.
THere have been about 4 threads about hacked messages in connection with BLM. BLM is aided and abetted by Lynch, Jarrett and 0bunghole, as well as funded by Soros, and BLM is tight with NOI and Hamas, was right from the start. And the CPUSA, the first time “Black Lives Matter” signs appeared, they had “ANSWER” at the bottom, which is a communist organization. IIRC the communists invented the BLM slogan.
LIberals are just Commies Lite.
