Why not a simple....No weapons beyond this line? That’s not taking them away. It’s being smart.

Although many protesters no doubt will show up in Cleveland, we wonder how many will quietly stay home, unnerved at the thought of marching amid so much firepower. Safer than a weekend in Chicago.

It’s merely trolling to echo the online petition started by a Democrat activist to try to get open carry of firearms in Cleveland’s convention (to make gun owners and Republicans look nutty).

If they can’t run with the big dogs, they should stay on the porch.

In a safety zone that's been established around the convention hall, there's a long list of what can't be brought in. It includes tennis balls! But because of OH's gun laws, it doesn't include weapons for those who have valid permits. Guns are of course not allowed inside the convention center.
I'm pro-second amendment but anti-gun for myself. But c'mon. Guns ok; tennis balls not ok?

"The chilling effect is a problem cropping up even at local community meetings across the country as more state legislatures permit people to openly carry formidable firearms."I wouldn't click the link, but then what's Chicago's problem since they don't allow much carry of any kind, open or concealed? (I would expect there to be more Homeland Security and Secret Service snipers than armed Black Panthers and Hell's Angels outside the convention.)

There will be an extensive security zone where weapons will not be permitted. This editorial is both ignorant and alarmist.

Sad, sad editorial as the author doesn’t seem to realize most of the shootings they are citing happened in the prescribed ‘gun free zones.’

I don’t fear the weapon I fear those willing to use a weapon. And there are more weapons than guns to choose from.

You can put a fair amount of C4 in a tennis ball.

“An armed society is a polite society.”
That is part of the problem... The author does not wish to be polite.

People may have right to give “thunderous voice” to issues they care about, but they don’t have the right harass or attack people, obstruct access, and destroy property.
We know from past behavior that is just what these scumbags will do.
Furthermore, there are already rumors that they Mayor of Cleveland has told the police to ‘stand down’ and not protect the GOP convention.
Maybe armed citizens will help restrain the scum.
