Indiana Gov. Mike Pence would bring constitutional fidelity, conservative credentials, traditional faith, foreign policy, Washington know-how, and a calm, steady, Midwestern demeanor to a national ticket with Donald Trump, boosting the New York businessman with several types of voters that may prove to be the key to building an electoral coalition that could propel Trump into the White House.

Pence began as an outsider who served 12 years in Congress and rose to leadership.
Pence was an Indiana talk show host who took on the party establishment to get into Congress. Once there, he was regularly a thorn in the establishments side, routinely opposing the go-along-to-get-along establishment playbook. But he did so as a happy warrior who kept disagreement focused on policies, while being friendly and personable with his opponents.
Over time, Pence became very popular among conservatives, and effective at communicating a conservative message through the national media. He was elected the chairman of the Republic Study Committee (RSC), the organization for stalwart conservatives in the U.S. House so that they could coordinate their efforts to maximize conservative outcomes. (Over time it became cool to join the RSC, and with the influx of moderates it became both larger and less conservative. That led to the creation of the House Freedom Caucus in 2015, filling the same role originally performed by the RSC.)
Pence repeatedly opposed George W. Bushs proposals to expand government. When Republicans lost the U.S. House in 2006, Pence took the ultimate anti-establishment step of running against John Boehner to be the leader of House Republicans. He lost that bid, but garners almost 30 voters against the future Speaker, making a name for himself as someone willing to oppose anyone who Pence believed would not lead as a conservative.

If Pence starts endorsing it in his speeches I will take notice. Otherwise why appease a faction of the party when Trump is on record as literally “not caring” if the Senate remains Republican ?? Even if he wins it isn’t going to be with a clear mandate on the main issues.
I'm wondering something else. With this latest attack in France, it is obvious that it's going to take superior military thinking if the end of Western civilization is to be prevented (I'm not exaggerating). Has it tipped the balance so that Pence would rather stay in Indiana and Flynn with military expertise is best for the VP position?
Pure speculation, from someone who got hooked on Apprentice every season. We'll know by 11AM if it is Pence, because of that IN filing deadline.
You mean you would actually consider voting for Crooked Hillary over Trump?
Cruz Lost, he could not get enough votes
Cruz Lost, he could not get enough votes
Cruz Lost, he could not get enough votes
Cruz Lost, he could not get enough votes
Cruz Lost, he could not get enough votes
Cruz Lost, he could not get enough votes
Do this 3 times a day, then you can really progress is your stages of grief.
My favorite cartoon growing up.
Is it Pence? I understand that Trump postponed his announcement at 11am today due do the France attacks. If that is true, then it looks like Pence is not the pick. He will not be able to pull out of the Indiana Governors race.
Pence has until noon Indiana time to submit paperwork to remove his name from governor ballot. I doubt there is any obligation by the State of Indiana to confirm that immediately. It may not be made official for several days.
Paul Ryan
John McCain
Mittens
I also doubt that Pence's selection, or any other VP pick, would convince anyone who dislikes Trump to vote for him. What selecting a VP the establishment tolerates will do, however, is make it less likely for the NeverTrumpers to actively sabotage Trump's efforts or covertly back Hillary.
This selection was made not to win over any new voters so much as to put an end to hostility from the RNC and other GOP power brokers. I'm guessing that Romney, the Bushes, Kristol, and similar rodents will be much more quiet and circumspect about trying to subvert Trump's campaign now.
What does your seeing eye dog say?
At least you’ve given good reasons why you think Pence is a bad choice.
I think Mike might pull in some bible believing folks who don’t like Trump or Hillary and have decided to sit this one out.
We’ll see...
Oh?
All I read was "offensive and unconstitutional".
Is this incorrect?
On what grounds?
I saw no misspelling of potato(e)
If he doesn’t mind, then why should we ? Why is he trying to appease the NeverTrumpers when they were nearly put to rest anyway ? Why not at least bring together a team with a unified message and campaign against the two parties ?
Trump doesn’t mind being ‘free agent’ if Senate GOP majority falls.
What does Donald Trump think about Republicans maintaining their Senate majority?
“Well, I’d like them to do that. But I don’t mind being a free agent, either,” Trump replied when that question was posed to him.
I know. Right? Lol.
Very good point.
According to Trump’s tweet it’s a done deal and he’ll make a formal announcement tomorrow at 11:00 am.
It’s not about winning the NeverTrumpers over, it’s about putting a stop to their covert efforts to get Hillary elected. Pence isn’t my dream VP either (Sessions would have been much better), but he was still the best of the three on Trump’s short list - Christie is an outright liberal and the right side of Newt’s brain doesn’t seem to know what the left side is saying or doing most of the time.
