The Queen shocked regulars at one of Edinburgh's best-known pubs by dropping in for a bite to eat after a day at the races, it has emerged.
She visited The Sheep Heid Inn on Friday night after giving staff an hours notice of her impending visit.
The small royal party is understood to have taken a window seat and to have ordered two portions of lamb rump, one sea bass fillet, a martini and a half bottle of white wine.

LOL! I have it on good authority (The Globe) that the Queen is going to be submitting her abdication in favor of William and bypass Charles and Camilla when she’s 90. Might happen around Christmas, if I read it right. Kate is preggers with twins, and supposedly it will be timed around that.
Saw that in line at the grocery store today! :-D
As to the second, not quite.
But there were a number of English or British people living in Ireland starting at about 300 AD.
Saint Patrick was British.
Try wearing that button on St Patrick's Day!
And that is why the idea of making the "English" leave Ireland is not practical. They have been there for over a thousand years. They are, for all intents, natives.
But they distinguished themselves as a different peoples, no? In fact, I seem to recall quite a few of the histories of the time wherein the individuals repeatedly stated that the Norman or Saxon (s) was (were) responsible for whatever they were discussing at the time, so I am left with the impression one could distinguish between Norman and Saxon merely by appearance, n’est ce pas?
Not certain what the distinction was, but it seemed to be obvious at the time.
Perhaps it was the same distinction that peoples of the Central and Southern Americas can tell between Mexican, Nicaraguan, Salvadoran, Chliean, and Peruvian.
Is Argentinian separate from them, I wonder?
I still remember reading through the large tomes I was forced to study, that when Cromwell waged his campaign through Ireland back then, the vast majority of the populace were in fact English, and the only true “Irish” were scattered tiny clans who could not get past what their local “kings” wished for and presented no worries to the crown.
With very few exceptions, the peoples that Cromwell rousted were in fact of british descent but felt no adherence to the demands of british royalty that were laid upon them.
So, those who call themselves “Irish” are really in fact British, much like the Scots became the Irish through time and the Irish became Scots due to the shifting of populaces over time.
Ducking now... *grin*
She’s alright by me too. Classy lady with a hell of a pedigree.
I wish the British appreciated their history more than they appear to.
Her “uncle” and Wallis Simpson were flaming Nazi sympathizers, film of them both riding in a car with Hitler while on a trip to Berlin. Churchill wanted him arrested for treason because he found out that Edward was colluding with the Nazis to force a peace with England.
This documentary spells it all out.

I read a biography of Wallis a few years ago & she & Edward were pitiful people. Had no hobbies but conspicuous consumption. He was obsessed w/ her. Pathetic rich people floating around the globe.
It was a really fascinating, but ultimately depressing read.
Is Argentinian separate from them, I wonder?
Argentina is close to pure European. So is Uruguay. They wiped out all the tribes of that region.
Chile is a European (Spanish, German, English) two tribes and Chinese.
Peru is some European (mostly Spanish), one major and a bunch of minor tribes and Japanese.
Paraguay is mostly one tribe with a dash of European, mostly from Spain.
So yeah, you can sort of tell but the best way is to listen to how they speak.
Accent tells.
AH!!! Thanks for that!! The pic I remembered showed Elizabeth from the rear-side, but it could have been this one. (It was a long time ago!) But it shows what a unique woman the Queen is. Thanks for the research. I’m glad we have it in print!
Excellent links .. thanks FRiend !
Happy to help! Getty Images had some others, so I am sure there are many photos from that day. It was a little tricky finding the right search term, which led me to the book, and then the photo.
You’re welcome!
A little late responding. (Busy here) But thanks for all your research! Queen Elizabeth is so much more than the gentle appearing woman with the matching hat and coat, with gloves and that handbag that we always see. She is unique in many ways and I love those old pictures of her where you see the real person. Yes — Royalty is just a word of old, and her position is a revered formality, but behind it all is someone who has taken on a life with two sides, and she has done both well. I just love seeing her when she is not on the throne. Thanks again.
There were eight Presidents during J Edgar Hoover’s reign
