Following the tragic attack on Dallas police officers late last week, CBS anchor Scott Pelley took it upon himself on Monday to pressure Vice President Joe Biden for the Obama administration ban so-called armor piercing rounds. Late today we asked Joe Biden about the ready availability of armor-piercing bullets, he stated on CBS Evening News, Dallas' mayor has blamed them for penetrating his officers' vests.
Pelley seemed to go after Biden right out of the gate, Why hasn't your administration restricted the sale of armor-piercing rounds through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives? The vice president responded by saying he and Pat Moynihan tried to ban them in the past. But he blamed the bills failure on Congressional Republicans and the evil gun lobby.

Stupidity piercing truth is what the left really needs to worry about.
“The depths of stupidity are apparently limitless.”
The sale of AP ammo for pistols HAS been banned.
However, when you are dealing with rifles you have a different story. First, rifles are held with 2 hands, meaning that they can be constructed to be much heavier than handguns. This means, among other things, that the action can (and usually is) built far more strongly than in a handgun...which means that the action can handle significantly higher pressure. Second, rifles have a longer barrel - significantly longer in almost all cases...which means higher velocity for the bullet as it exits the barrel. Thus, when you combine significantly higher pressures AND a longer barrel, you are dealing with MUCH higher velocities. The bottom line of all of this being very simple: protecting a person against a torso wound from a rifle is significantly more difficult than with a handgun. There are vests that can protect against penetration from rifle rounds, but even with normal FMJ bullets (which, for the uninformed, simply means that the lead bullets are coated in a very thin layer of copper to prevent both fouling of the barrel by soft lead, and also to prevent splattering of lead when the bullet hits the target), such protection requires both thicker Kevlar AND a ceramic or steel plate within the Kevlar vest. As such, the police officers in Dallas were probably equipped with vests that would have protected them against a torso shot with a pistol, NOT a rifle - firing NON-AP rounds.
Here’s a hint, Scotty: do some actual research into firearms and ballistics - then you might not sound like such an ignorant fool.
How does an idiot who knows nothing of firearms come to run a news organization?
You might want to rethink think that post you may get a visit
‘The 3006 black tips (I think called M2 AP or something) are harder to come by but you can still buy. You have to go looking for them.’
That is what I found years ago. Due to a break in all my ammo and weapons are history.
He may have been using 7n6 5.45mm, which has a mild steel core, but Obama already banned that from import.
Currently only AP above .22 caliber designed for use in handguns are illegal. The ATF ruled that steel core 7.63x39 as well as 7.62 NATO several were “handgun ammunition”years ago.
I’m thinking of getting one of those AK-47s that can shoot down airplanes and a .50 cal that can shoot through tanks.
I think the AK-74 only comes in 5.45X39.
Get one with the ghosts in it.
I'm not sure that AppyPappy has ever rethunk anything before, why start now?
“How does an idiot who knows nothing of firearms come to run a news organization?”
The same way an idiot who knows nothing of firearms becomes President of the United States.
The Government near monopoly on education and Affirmative Action.
They want to classify any round that will go through a “bulletproof” vest as “armor piercing” and outlaw it. Currently that includes pretty much all rifle ammunition.
I think that the military body armor will stop a rifle round.
I know how kevlar works and a standard body armor vest doesnt stand a chance against it.
A Bolt if properly used, from in an Old Englih Lomg Bow or a Bolt from a Cross - Bow can not be stopped by even current body armor; unless you’re IRON = Man.
My Saiga is 7.62x39. Civilian model before the ban.
Really? Even a heavy .30 caliber? I sure wouldn't want to be on the other side of the vest when a .375 Magnum round slammed home. It would probably feel like getting hit by a car. Painful and probably still injurious, but better than not having a vest.
