Comey: Hillary Still Possibly Under FBI Investigation into Clinton Foundation

FBI director James Comey would not comment Thursday when asked directly by Congress, under oath, whether his department is still investigating Hillary Clinton in connection with possible corruption related to the Clinton Foundation. Comey had announced Tuesday that he would not recommend prosecuting Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information, despite the fact that her behavior was “extremely careless.”

However, Comey did not say anything about investigation into the Clinton Foundation, which now still appears to be ongoing.

That investigation involves suspicions that the former Secretary of State abused her role to solicit donations for her family’s private charity — including donations from some foreign governments.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chair of the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform, asked: “Did you look at the Clinton Foundation?”

Comey responded: “I’m not going to comment on the existence or non-existince of any other investigations.”

He also said he would not answer whether the Clinton Foundation was “tied into” the investigation of Clinton’s email server.

The misuse of classified information, while very important, has always in my mind been a sideshow. The much bigger unanswered question, which was asked today and essentially went unanswered again, is WHY did she create an arrangement that was so obviously intended to hide information? And WHAT was she hiding?

As many Republicans tried today, to their credit, to emphasize, Hillary's actions don't make sense absent a clear intent to deceive. On a side note, I have to say that Jason Chaffetz was on fire today. That final exchange he had with Comey was electric, and should be used as material for campaign ads from now until the election.

If we haven't figured it out by now, it's pretty obvious that the standards for serving as president of the United States are so low that even your local garbage collector is above the position.

This was one reason why I've never believed that Donald Trump was ever serious about this campaign. Arsonists, child molesters and even trial lawyers ought to hold a level of public respect higher than what Washington, D.C. has given us over the last 25 years.

so why didn’t Comey just come out and say there were no other investigations in progress regarding Hillary?

My guess is he left it hanging to avoid having to answer questions about the Foundation. This way they don’t have to investigate and they don’t have to defend why they did not investigate.

But I’m also a Texan. If these jerkwads aren’t stupid enough to make any noise here. They kind of tried and failed. So I’m not too down.

I should add to my previous comment by also saying that I hope (I know, but what else can we do?) that the Republicans in Congress will actually follow through on their expressed intent to investigate whether Hillary lied to Congress, as well as continuing to dig into further details regarding this investigation. I think they've got her dead to rights on lying to them, because they established irrefutably that she gave very different testimony to them vs. what she apparently told the FBI, in addition to discrepancies with her public statements.

They also need to lock on to why the FBI hasn't investigated any of the other staffers involved who apparently misused classified information. Comey appeared totally caught off guard when asked about this. It was obvious to me that they hit a nerve there, so they need to keep pursuing it.

So what? The investigation is two pronged. The racketeering is the other prong. Comey wouldn’t comment on Hilary’s aides. The racketeering was never covered by the media like the emails. It’s still ongoing.
