A Minnesota traffic stop turned deadly Wednesday evening as a police officer opened fire on a black driver.
The victim, 32-year-old Philando Castile, died at a Minneapolis hospital, a family member told The Washington Post. Castiles mother, Valerie Castile, told CBS Minnesota that her son had died at Hennepin County Medical Center.
The St. Anthony Police Department confirmed the drivers death during a brief Thursday morning press conference but did not identify the officer involved in the shooting or the officers race.
The bloody aftermath of the confrontation was broadcast live on Facebook by a female passenger in the car.
He killed my boyfriend, said the woman, whose Facebook page named her as Lavish Reynolds, as blood soaked through Castiles shirt.
In the video, Reynolds says Castile was legally licensed to carry a firearm and was reaching for his identification when the officer opened fire.
He let the officer know that he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet and the officer just shot him in his arm, she says.

It may not seem like a natural response, but until you are in a given situation, you never know how you will actually respond. Sometimes people fall to pieces and others, they think clearly.
Whatever transpired before she started taking her video, she was pretty calm and, I thought, courteous to the officer. She never cussed, she prayed out loud, she used terms of respect and politeness.
In my mind, it is entirely possible for the cop to have said one thing, and they thought he said something else, or perhaps the cop misunderstood what the man had said.
Either way, it is a tragic loss of life.
Canada has 35 million of the politest people you will ever meet. So the U.S. population is not quite 10 times our size. That's still six times as many shootings in the U.S. as here.
The idiot cop was more nervous than a magician who just got caught with his fake tricks.
There’s a few on FR that have been saying for years that avoiding the cops at all costs will extend your life.
They were right then and they are right now.
No? Then there is your answer.
Ah so if you didn't have all those black people then police wouldn't be shooting anyone. Got it.
“Are you one of those people that support LOE regardless like a Pavlov dog slobbering at the bell?”
Oh but of course that wasn’t meant as an insult. (eye roll)
“Sorry if you found it insulting. Does it fit?”
I’m sure you’re sorry. (eye roll again) Hmmmmmm....does it fit? Perhaps, depends on what’s for dinner.
“Not to me it doesnt. a more important measure to me would be actual accidents. “
Never had an accident that was my fault even though some jobs I had required “rolling down the highway”.
“Seeing that you are nearing retirement”
Seeing that you don’t know pea turkey d@mn about me I sure do appreciate your concern about my insurance rates. Rest assured sweetie, because of my driving history my rates are excellent.
>>Wow. Do you have a lot of problems with confrontations with law enforcement?
I have problems with any civil servant who refers “civilians” as if they have less of a right to get home alive tha the civil servant does. Case in point: the 2.5 hour donut break outside Pulse while people were bleeding to death while talking to 911, turning a mass shooting into the second worst terrorist shooting in US history. Of course, if you include murder by other means, then the federal law enforcement slaughter in Waco is really #2.
Why are people jumping to conclusions based a a very prejudiced witness? Why not wait for the facts before rioting? How many times do we have to go through this BS?
Rioting is much more fun.
Avoiding cops has always been my strategy. I know cops who avoid other cops on the force. That’s pretty scary.
You mean one cop screaming "Don't move!" while another one screams "Get on the ground!"? That sort of scenario happens all the time: different cops yelling contradictory instructions.
Police can basically kill anyone they want, anytime they want: white, black, or purple.
Just like with our political class, there is no accountability that I've ever seen with the police. The police are part of the elite who get to live by different rules than the "little" people...
Don’t delude yourself, it is not Constitutional carry.
Your local Barney Fifes might not have slept during the class when this was discussed, but how about the 24 federal law enforcement agencies in your state that are not required to have state training?
Telling a DHS jackboot that you have a gun will not end well, not to mention DEA, IRS, BATF, etc., etc.
“How many times do we have to go through this BS?”
At least twice a summer
In Canada last year we had 25 fatal police shootings. In the U.S. there were about 1200. So is the job of a police officer in the U.S. 50 times more dangerous than here?
I read your statement wrong. Sorry.
Although...If “we” didn’t have all these black people, then Police wouldn’t be shooting as many black people. Might just make up the difference with Whites though.
Handy that Canada doesn’t report it’s population by race, only by “ethnicity”.
One of the most freaking white countries on the planet trying to tell us how to deal with our race relations.
Just...shut...up...
Do what you want. I don’t care if you get arrested strutting testosterone. Have a nice day.

Drugs and Guns don’t mix.
There were drugs in the car.
GF has a record.
These things will be omitted from every article.
Wow! I can’t believe how many of you people seem to get in entanglements with the law and are cop haters. Maybe you should rethink what you are doing with your life.
Let’s check the score...
“Much has been made about how dangerous a cops job is.”
How many cops were shot by motorists in random traffic stops in 2016? ~17
How many motorists were shot by cops in random traffic stops in 2016 ~ over 10x as many.
That was disturbing to watch her saying that while he was moving. She’s a moron. Not much as far as comforting words to the guy at all.
I watch my local news every night and read my little local town newspaper and it’s chilling to see what the criminal element has been transformed to.
