As conspiracy theorists would have it, the biggest project that director Stanley Kubrick helmed is the Apollo 11 moon landing of 1969.
For decades, fringe groups have held that the U.S government hired Kubrick to shoot the “fake moon landing.” Now, as NASA’s Juno probe is expected to reach Jupiter this week, Kubrick’s daughter, Vivian, took to Twitter stating “this feels like the right time to respond.”
“There are many, very real conspiracies that have happened throughout our history,” Vivian Kubrick wrote. “But, claims that the moon landings were faked and filmed by my father? I just can’t understand it!!?”(snip)
She added, “… the so called ‘truth’ these malicious cranks persist in forwarding – that my father conspired with the US Government to ‘fake the moon landings’ – is manifestly A GROTESQUE LIE.”

Of course I’m aware of the “Paul is dead” conspiracy - just never a “Kubrick connection”.
btw, I’m fortunate enough (via a friend who is a highly acclaimed mastering engineer) to have CDR copies burned direct from the studio master tapes of all the UK Beatles albums as well as a number of unreleased studio demos with studio chatter.

I’ve occasionally contemplated how many people would have to be “in on it” to fake lunar landings.
It would be easier to land men on the moon and safely return them than it would be to fake it and keep the fraud a secret.
Well over 600,000 people were involved in Apollo, most of them significant credentials. It would be impossible to pull the wool over that many people's eyes. Few of those were government employees.
There were multiple sites monitoring the radio traffic between the moon and earth as well as the telemetry from the spacecraft. There were also entities not tied with the US government in any fashion who were doing the same. The transponder in the command module could be "pinged" by anyone with the protocol. That protocol was published just so that amateur radio operators could ping and monitor the signals.

Exactly. And landing on the moon wasn’t something impossible and crazy hard. A large number of small things had to be done well, but we make it into some utterly impossible feat.
But from an aviation point of view, all the technology was there. There was a launch. A transit in space to the moon. Arrival at the moon had a certain basket to hit to properly get into orbit.
A lander was released and landed. Then repeat in the other direction.
It was tough, and there were many things that had to be built right. But it was well within the capability of pour engineers back then. It reveals the average persons lack of intelligence to think it is so impossible ...that it must have been faked.
Is that another conspiracy?
Half the people in the U.S. refuse to believe that is possible.
How can NASA actually land men on the moon, but, after receiving high res video of the event, and after recording it, lose it?
Wouldn't the name of the dumbest technician in human history be known and recorded for posterity?

In a nation of 320 million somebody will believe EVERYTHING. Really this conspiracy theory dates back to the launch, 40 years is a long time to be doomed.
A much larger percentage of people believe these crazy things than in the past.

Some wanks at one of the imaging agencies used equipment to take a picture of the Apollo 11 landing site. The lander is distinctly visible as is the flag which is bleached white and, yes indeed, it was blown about 800’ away during ascent and lies just inside a small crater
