Denver (CNN)Donald Trump is turning to his family, sports figures and business leaders to fill speaking slots at the Republican National Convention later this month as scores of prominent Republican leaders continue to refuse to line up behind their controversial nominee-to-be.
Trump announced Friday that his wife and children "are all going to be speaking" at the nominating convention that kicks off in just over two weeks. And the real estate mogul has also promised to add sports figures and other non-politicians who are supporting him to the roster of convention speakers, which would set the 2016 convention apart from past conventions packed with current and former elected officials.
The unconventional programming, which Trump has said will include a "winners' night," comes as his campaign and the Republican National Committee are facing an unusual problem unseen in past conventions: a lack of interest in speaking slots from many party elders and rising stars.

I’d like to see a speech from that black pastor who spoke at Trump’s Cleveland rally.
I agree. The author is spinning this to have us believe that Trump can't find politicians to speak. I think that Donald doesn't want politicians to speak.
We all know what is going to happen, and he needs to put on some serious entertainment to keep people tuned in.
Music acts, some sports figures, people millennial can identify with, and the fewest boring politicians he can get away with.
Just wait until he debates Hillary one-on-one. First question to Hillary: "What did the FBI ask you when they took you downtown?"
Ryan would likely be the biggest “bomb” at the podium...no one wants to hear from him
Good. These things are snoozefests.
I bet diamond and Silk will give a speech..

Yep they could a 20 minute slot with a few things about
the support and events along the campaign trail.
Does Trump even want traitor republicans or RINOs or politicians to speak? I doubt it. Trump is not a politician like the media is use to.
I think it’s wonderful that he has decided to do away with the usual slate of wanna-be future presidents. We saw what those had to offer during the primaries—nothing. Stick with upbeat, popular personalities closely identified with the average voter. I would love to see Pat Buchanan given a spot, but doubting it will happen. That guy knows how to give a speech.
At 91, if he's still lucid have Lee Iacocca speak.
Carl Icahn. Steve Forbes. Sheldon Adelson.

Heck if he could get that a-hole Kanye to speak for him I’d be ok with that.
Good suggestion with Diamond and Silk.
I thought I’d read at FR earlier this week that if they won’t endorse Trump, then Trump told them they don’t get to speak at the convention. I think that’s the way it should be, or they’ll be cowardly enough to say some crap about him. Trump’s right again.
He controls the day to day agenda and rules on questions of order from the podium. He will be like having a viper at the convention’s breast.
I hope he includes Diamond and Silk as attendees-—they have been behind him since day one.

Each potential cabinet member should give a SHORT speech on what they would like to accomplish with their department.
Ryan needs to be dispatched post haste. Tuesday would work.
Then, Trump needs to come out in support of his primary challenger.
Beginning with how they would cut the size and influence of their department.
Patriots are reminded that Republican and GOP are obsolete terms which we now see most often in election years to influence low-information patriot voters.
Note that today’s GOPe should be regarded as the conservative front-end of the corrupt, Constitution-ignoring Washington cartel imo.
I like that. How refreshing that would be!
They can give me a speaking slot. I’d even fly to Cleveland to do that.
