Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday signed six gun-control bills into law, including a requirement that ammunition purchasers undergo background checks. The governor vetoed five other measures.
My goal in signing these bills is to enhance public safety by tightening our existing laws in a responsible and focused manner, while protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners, Brown wrote in a message.
Brown approved bills that would ban the sale of semiautomatic rifles equipped with bullet buttons allowing the ammunition magazines to be easily detached and replaced.
The National Rifle Assn. Institute for Legislative Action accused the governor of exploiting the terrorist attacks for political gain.
Gov. Jerry Brown today signed a Draconian gun control package that turns Californias law-abiding gun owners into second-class citizens, said Amy Hunter, California spokesperson for the group. The governor and legislature exploited a terrorist attack to push these measures through even though the states already restrictive laws did nothing to stop the attack in San Bernadino.
Bills the governor signed will:
Require an ID and background check to purchase ammunition and create a new state database of ammunition owners
Ban possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets.
Restrict the loaning of guns without background checks to close family members.
Brown acted on the gun bills just before he left for a European vacation expected to last a few weeks.

Why would they show up when there is nothing to defend?
He’s long been! a crispy critter
Page not found. do you have a working link?
“”Hubert Leon “Bill” Richardson (born December 28, 1927) founded Gun Owners of America (GOA) in 1975 and served as a California state senator from 19661989. He served as the state senate’s Republican Caucus Chair for several of these years””
This is the guy I was thinking of... He’s 88 years old. He gave it a good try for a lot of years. Too bad CA didn’t ever have anyone of the same caliber to replace him...They desperately need someone.
“”I wonder if they will start checking for guns and ammo when you enter CA from AZ?””
Sure, why not? They’ll check the pineapples to make sure you’re not smuggling ammo in them....but you could befriend an illegal to do your transporting for you. I’m sure they don’t dare stop them at those checkpoints!
Brown really needs to check into a mental institution. Well, confined would be better with the key thrown away.
His remark at the end of the L. A. Times article is priceless and clueless:
“”I continue to believe that responsible people report the loss or theft of a firearm and irresponsible people do not.””
Same goes for law abiding gun owners, Jerry. You couldn’t figure that out for yourself???
Is he serious?
‘Brown is another example of how leftys with gold level healthcare seem to live forever (Soros, Carter, Castro bros, etc)’
Well as they say the good die young the SOB’s live forever.
You cant stop this. How long have you lived in California? I am a 62 year old native born San Fanciscan and I can assure you that no state gun law has ever been stopped or overturned.
The way I fight is to move out of Communist occupied Kalifornia at first chance and take my tax dollars and conservative votes to a purple state to help save it. A couple of million of us taking our votes to Colorado or Washington could turn those states back to being conservative.
There is nothing anybody can do to stop Moonbeam and his commies and their starry eyed leftist voters from passing the nations most restrictive gun laws. They are going to keep going until they tax guns and ammo out of existence.
He’s very odd, in a number of ways.
If you have been in California for any length of time, you would realize we dont have the numbers, supporters, or money to do anything. We banned gay marriage and that was overruled. We banned giving handouts to illegal immigrants and that too was overturned. Why do you think we have some magic power regarding the second amendment California ignores.
Conservatives have no representation, which isnb whynI plan to move to a state which does represent me.
So far it is not illegal for Californians to buy ammo outside California. You dont need ID or a transfer, etc. but the way California is going, they will make it illegal. Of corse that is unenforceable if it is not federal law. Other states dont have to comply with California State law.
Just for S and G, what is the per cent voter participation in CA for a given election?
Do you have the approximate numbers of voter participation in this state for any given primary or general?
Did NOT know that...
I think you should be able to find out just about anything related to California elections here.
It covers registrations, participation, and vote results.

who now have been criminalized
= = =
What’s that saying? After the first felony, all the rest are free.
So they make me a felon, while I sleep at night.
Jerry (if it’s brown-flush it) does not realize the ‘nothing left to lose’ factor that they created with these laws.
Cops already worry about 2-strike criminals who may have this same attitude.
Now here-to-fore honest citizens may be a ‘threat’ to them.
Looks like we made the great escape just in time. We lit out for Tennessee last year. We went Galt and it’s been wonderful! Join us...
So, there is approximately 10 million eligible voters who don't even lift a finger.
If 1/2 are rats, then that leaves approximately 5 million votes that can be used to sway a whole lot of races and propositions on the ballot.
have to figure out how to get them to care enough to realize their vote can make a difference.
Ca rats win year after year with a pathetic turnout of voters, because they have the entire govt work force motivated, while the producers are discouraged every way possible.
Trump has tapped into this reservoir on a national scale.
We need someone on the state level, not afraid to say what needs to be said, and able to weather the resultant Shiite storm the state media and untions will unleash.
Look at the last primary. Minimal republican participation, resulting in two rats head to head in November for the senate seat!
I know repubs feel rejected and discouraged, but they bring it on themselves by continuing to sit on their hands chanting woe is me.
It is my suspicion, that as much as the internet has opened eyes and disseminated information, it is only for those who wish to seek it out.
On the flip side, it may have made erstwhile active physical participants in getting out the message into reclined keyboard warriors, whose target, those inactive non registered but eligible to vote people, out of earshot.
It has been since 1984, that a Conservative actually came into the state on fire, and sold Conservatism.
That’s 32 years ago.
If someone was 15 at the time, they’ve pretty much spent their whole live being sold Leftist ideology with not push back. They would not be 47 years old, having never as an adult heard Conservative values pushed in California.
If someone at the state level makes a great comment, it will be like a forest falling with no one around. The media in the state won’t report it.
It has to be a national figure like Trump who can’t be ignored. This is part of the reason why I have supported Trump.
When Trump does well in the state, and he will, Conservatism will be popular again. It will resonate with people and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the state swing back to the Right. People are looking for sound values, and I don’t think anyone thinks California has them right now.
Sorry for the not and now mixups there...
