Muslims in Japan lost a lawsuit over the governments surveillance of them in May, with the court saying its a necessary counter-terrorism tactic.
Japanese police have monitored places of worship, halal restaurants and Muslim organizations for years in what they label a counter-terrorism measure. A 2010 leak of 114 Japanese police files quickly spread across the world with 10,000 downloads in 20 countries. The files contained personal information of 72,000 Muslims in several countries, showing just how widespread the surveillance is.
A group of 17 Muslims living in Japan sued the government for infringing on their constitutional rights. The Muslims eventually received close to $900,000 in compensation, but the countrys Supreme Court still finds the profiling and surveillance tactics necessary and inevitable to prevent terrorism.
We were told we dont have a constitutional case, said Junko Hayashi, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, according to Al Jazeera. Were still trying to figure out, how is it not constitutional?
The court case didnt make much noise in Japan the debate instead focused on how the leak will hurt counter-terrorism efforts in the future.
About 70,000 Muslims live in Japan. The vast majority, 90 percent, are foreigners.
That's about 7000 wogs in a country of 127 million. Japan is to be commended for its diversity!
Blanket smallpox was effective in the West, once.
Be interesting to hear their findings.
Thank you for your informed analysis. By reading this, many FReepers could learn about the legal issues & procedures, and also about how to post a coherent, well-argued opinion properly.
A very, very, very large war is coming.
The interesting thing is, if Christians had been targeted for investigation, they would have probably thrown the doors of the churches open and told everybody to come in.
But that is a Christian thing, isn’t it.
We are already in it.
"Khrushchev, we will bury you", didn't mean he/Russia/USSR, he meant we, ourselves will be our own demise and his country will bury our remains.
Ideology wise, he's seems to have been very prophetic.
Diversity is code for reverse racism under the color of authority, and that’s all.
I was living in Japan in the 90s. Japan had opened its doors to Middle-Easterners by giving them temporary visas for work. Same thing as we see here in the USA, as soon as the muslims got there, they became a group unto themselves. Crime soared.. burglaries, rape. Overstayed their visas. They had a scheme of reactivating old, used up phone cards and selling them on the street and bullying pedestrians into buying them or facing aggression. The Iranians were the biggest offenders. Pakistanis, too. The Ueno area of Tokyo became known as Little Tehran and was very dangerous, especially for westerners. This was right after Reagan, and Iran was only allowing hard line anti-westerners to have permission to leave the country. Moderates who didn’t get out with the Shah were not permitted to leave.
One day at dawn, what seemed like every policeman in the country, shoulder to shoulder, closed in on Little Tehran and every Middle Easterner was detained. If they didn’t have a visa or it was expired, they were immediately thrown out of the country. No exceptions! Crime dropped to almost zero again.
Accurate and succinct.
Thanks. If they gave Whites these perks, there would be screaming in the streets.
I was living in Tokyo until 1995 ( since then in Kumamoto ) , but never heard about this before . What year ?
Someone is starting to wise up. Too bad it’s not us.
I have always heard the Japanese described as a practical, pragmatic people. This is a game of survival against savages. It must be done.
And how many mohamicidal attacks have they had?
bookmark.
Right about 1994 or so. Could have been a little later.
Didn’t get much in-Japan coverage. They just did it.
Right about the same rime as the Aum Shinri Kyo subway attack I guess .
I wonder if Japan could use some new residents if/when Hillary gets elected?
