The percent of American households owning guns is at a near-40 year low in the latest CBS News poll released this month.
According to the survey, which was conducted among 1,001 Americans in the aftermath of the Orlando, Florida, nightclub shooting, 36 percent of U.S. adults either own a firearm personally, or live with someone who does. Thats the lowest rate of gun ownership in the CBS poll going back to 1978. Its down 17 points from the highest recorded rate in 1994, and nearly 10 percentage points from 2012.

Right.
With the lefties ravening after our guns and our rights and the GOPe pusillanimously wobbling in the face of their onslaught prudent, freedom-loving Americans are going to announce their gun-owning status to total strangers.
I’m sure...
Yet sales are through the roof
Sample population is key. More people live in large cities with restrictive gun ownership laws? There has been a dramatic shift of people leaving the suburbs to live in the cities again in the last decade or so.
Really? Why lie to a MEDIA inquisition. Who would tell these fine, upstanding people of the PRESS a lie?
Golly, if they called me, I’d tell them that yes, I owned several guns but lost all of them in a tragic boating accident on Lake Michigan. So, no, I don’t have a single gun in my household.
I believe it! What, with the number of boating accidents!
When a polling company calls you, they have your name, phone number and address. Any answer you give them will be digitized and placed in a permanent database, the security of that database is of unknown quantity, and you can be pretty sure the outfit asking the question is hostile to private gun ownership.
Gee... Why wouldn't somebody want to answer that question honestly?
It was that FReeper Boating accident that lost me all mine...
Does anyone believe the majority of respondents would answer this question honestly? Guns are one of the most sought after items for burglars. What if some anonymous person called asking if you have any valuable jewelry or rare coins in the house - are you gonna answer, “yeah sure”?
141,400,000 guns have been sold since Barry took office. Bill Clinton had large sales also. I do not know who they polled to get this result but government records show a different story.
Either that, or there has been a plethora of tragic boating accidents. :-)
Note the difference between GSS's "in your home?" (blue) vs Gallup's "in your home or truck or shed or garage? (orange), the latter number being comparable to the 1982 level.
:: Like anyone with a micron of intelligence would tell a random stranger (polling co.) that they own a firearm ::
All-the-while holding their 1911SA behind their back...just to make sure.
In 1978 I didn’t know anyone that owned a hand gun. Today in my close circle of family and friends I know of at least a dozen.
Hmmm. Since 2009 there have been record gun sales each year.
Must be a ton of boating accidents.
5.56mm
Gun sales hit new records every month.
BS
As I would with a telephone survey asking about cash, gold, my work schedule or alarm systems in my home.
Yup. Gun sales have been at record rates for years, as have CCW applications. With the gov’t threats of gun registration etc., people are afraid to respond truthfully.
BS!! But on the other hand with the on going threats by our government to confiscate our guns people are inclined to say they own guns. Specially on a phone survey. You never know if it’s a government official trying to smoke you Out!! I am so done with our government I don’t trust them one iota! But I can always trust my handy gun to defend my Constitutional rights, my family and myself against any threats against my enemy and my life... Where as the government has failed!..ROYALLY!! 1st God, then Family and country!! If the Lord still wills it, God bless America!
My wife knows I have guns.
She doesn’t know how many......
