According to a British Freeper this is a good thing. Gove is much better.

If you look at the cards stacked up for the next two years and this exit treaty episode....it makes no sense to raise your hand and be the “temp” leader. Whoever gets the job....will be there two to three years...have a heck of a time with the EU for the exit deal....and watch Scotland vote and walk away from the UK, then have to deal with Northern Ireland and London-City who might want to exit as well.

I’d wait this out and look at the job in a couple of years when the mess has cleared.

I’ll even make this prediction...that if the treat isn’t worked up quickly and they only start to exit by the fall of 2018...there’s the EU parliament election in the spring of 2019, and lots of possibilities of right-wing types from the 27 member states that might arrive at the EU, and then all heck breaks loose.

Gove seems to be a nice guy. He wrote in his book Celsius that Islam is like Nazism and Communism. Rare common sense these days. I wonder if the mayor of London will declare jihad against him like he did against Trump.

I agree with whoever said that. Despite being pro-Brexit (which was very surprising, he was thought to be pro-EU before), Johnson is to the left of Cameron, he took it upon himself to endorse Obama for President in 2008. His is popular though and may have made the strongest candidate for the next election.

Sounds like there was major behind the scenes intrigue that lead to him not running. Gove and other Johnson supporters are said to have “stabbed him in the back”.

So, there are 5 candidates, I’m no expert but here’s my analysis

Michael Gove, probably a frontrunner now, pro-brexit, I think he’s to the right of Cameron, he’s seems to get that Islam sucks, social liberal but that’s to be expected.

Theresa May, “Cameroon”, remainer, probably chief rival to Gove. Seems to have the most MP support.

Liam Fox, the most conservative choice, pro-brexit, longtime euro-skeptic, probably the only one we’d welcome into the Republican party, social conservative. I doubt he has a chance but he’d probably be my choice.

Stephen Crabb, remainer, Cameroon, I listened to his speech on my Sky News ap, seems like a real namby-pamby compassionate conservative type.

Andrea Leadsom, not someone I was previously familiar with, pro-Brexit, don’t know much about her.

MPs will whittle it down to 2 of them, probably Gove and May, and then all Conservative party members get a vote in a mail-in ballot.

The Labour Party is in disarray, Labour MPs overwhelmingly voted for a motion of no-confidence in their leader, Jeremy Corybn.

Gove is. He really shined in the leave campaign, even some of the remain people were impressed. Personally, I think he’s too identified with Brexit to be the leader to draw the Conservative party together, but they know their own mind best.

after 3 years it is illuminating to read what the folks said

“In a speech in London - billed as his campaign launch - Mr Johnson said he did not believe he could provide the leadership or unity needed...
Addressing reporters in a new conference just moments before the deadline for nominations passed, Mr Johnson said the next Conservative leader would have to unify his party and ensure that Britain stood tall in the world.

“Having consulted colleagues and in view of the circumstances in Parliament, I have concluded that person cannot be me,” he said.”

As babble-on pointed out “Boris is more of a show-pony, not so much a workhorse.”

pepsionice was bang-on in his prediction about “I’d wait this out and look at the job in a couple of years when the mess has cleared.”

And mostly Vanders9 was sooo correct with his “.its going to be an interesting few months.”
