The next day, all of us who signed the petition were called into a meeting where we thought our proposal would be discussed. Instead, we were informed that due to our unprofessional behavior, we were being let go from our internships. We were told to hand in our ID badges and to gather our things and leave the property ASAP.
We were shocked. The proposal was written professionally like examples I have learned about in school, and our arguments were thought out and well-reasoned. We werent even given a chance to discuss it. The worst part is that just before the meeting ended, one of the managers told us that the worker who was allowed to disobey the dress code was a former soldier who lost her leg and was therefore given permission to wear whatever kind of shoes she could walk in. You cant even tell, and if we had known about this we would have factored it into our argument.

(I'm just linking to another thread that's had over 100 posts. This post isn't at all some "already posted!!!!" complaint. Even if I tended to complain, that earlier thread has a different source and a significantly different title.)
"They can do that?"
what’s with the page jumping back to the top every few seconds? makes reading rather difficult
In the future, consider floating your proposals in what some like to call a "trial balloon." Have a chit-chat with a seasoned confidant, perhaps your intern mentor over lunch. Make some harmless small talk about the weather, the local ball team, a project you heard about going on in the company, etc.
If you get the feeling that you're in a "safe space" with that confidant, ask them how a proposal such as yours would land with management. If they're vaguely in agreement, ask about the best way to make that proposal and what the best timing would be.
If the company is undergoing some financial storms, or if the company is coming off a bad quarter or two, unless your proposal contains an immediate payback with zero cost, you'd better zip it. Just because you learned how to draft a "business memorandum" in your Effective Communications' course doesn't mean your boss will see it that way.
Counsel them for being late/tardy/using company equipment for personal use (Surfing), etc. Then catch them in the act and fire them. ALL OF IT IN WRITING!
I would be on the phone with others that applied for those valued internships and see if they were still available.
Tgeir parents paid 100s of thousands and they learned nada zero nothing. Now they have learned far more in one meeting in the real world. Nice.
LOL! Well, I already posted something the search engine didn’t find. Oh well.
News Alert. Snowflakes melt in this age of glow bull warming.
Probably saw nothing wrong with drafting and circulating the petition on the clock. The snowflakes are going to have a much tougher time paying back their student loans than anyone imagines.
Mission accomplished then.
Now they are OUTTERNS
Teachable moment? Bet they only learned to present a better argument in their next petition. A double S hats.

Scroller on your mouse is hosed.
... not anymore.
They were interns.............
Oh the graduation commencement speech I would give!
Dear Graduates of this fine institution, Welcome to the real world. Now you education just begins.
First, you must learn that nobody gives a damn how you feel.
Second, you must learn that the BOSS may not always be right, but he’s the BOSS.
Thirdly, your sole responsibility is to make the BOSS happy.
Fourthly, and finally, you will learn that if you do not pay attention to the first three rules, you will be unemployed with no pay.
Have a nice life!.......................
She's long since gone unfortunately and the Booksellers look like they just walked in from a homeless camp.
One other thing. No one was allowed any facial piercings ;-)

But I come from that world one sees in the rear view mirror. What do I know?
Progressive education rejects abstractions and focuses on concretes and actions over thought. Pluralistic education takes diversity into account and treats all subjects equally. Together they fail to transmit acquired knowledge, and instead they focus on developing the student's self expression of his own desires, interests, and impulses.
I sometimes got razzed for eating at my desk at my last job. I have hyper-sensitive hearing, and couldn’t stand to be in the break room when the icemaker turned on or the compressors cycled on the fridges. But I don’t think anyone ever sent out a petition because of it!
I did know one who got laughed out of the boss’s office for complaining about me, though. I was the QA then, and he claimed his bad scores shouldn’t count against him because I never spoke to him verbally. I had sent him emails and instant messages by the dozens, his immediate supervisor had spoken to him about it several times, and so had the other QA on the floor. But because I hadn’t talked to him about it, he thought he should get a pass.
My boss laughed him out of the office for that. Why? Because I was MUTE!!!!
It’s amazing what people will do to try and justify not following the rules.
