As a group of Republican delegates continue their push for the freedom to vote their conscience when casting presidential nominating ballots at the Republican National Convention, John McCain said Tuesday that it's within their rights to vote how they see fit.
"I think it's up to every delegate to make up their own minds," McCain told THE WEEKLY STANDARD in the Capitol. "I do not tell them what to do, I never have."
Although McCain said he wasn't expressing an opinion on what delegates should do, the former GOP presidential nominee's words of support for the delegates' freedom of conscience should come as welcome news to anti-Trump Republicans.

McCain was a bridge to far for me in 2008. As much as I like Sarah I just could not pull the Lever for John McCain. Now I did ho;d my nose and vote Romney in 2012. I hope McCain loses his primary. Sarah should go to Az and tell Az to dump McCain.
“John McCain said Tuesday that it’s within their rights to vote how they see fit.”
In the instant case, many states have laws on the books REQUIRING their delegates to vote for the winner of their state’s primary, regardless of personal preference. No one has a right to be a delegate, so it can (and often does) come with some restrictions. The state delegation leader MUST inform the convention of the votes of the delegation ACCORDING TO STATE LAW, regardless of how any individual delegate actually decides to vote.
Practically speaking, if the Republicans for Hillary succeed in taking the nomination from Trump, or even damage him so much that we lose the election to that Leftist Witch, then the GOP is DEAD. Literally millions of people will not only never vote Republican again, but they won’t work in elections or make contributions. Congressional seats in both Houses will be lost by the dozen. The Party will be OVER.
I agree.
Prick!
I just called his local and DC offices and gave them what-for. Neither office would confirm he said it, however.
There should be serious consequences for any delegate bound to Trump that does not vote for Trump. Serious meaningful consequences upon their return to their home towns. Their neighbors did not sent then to Ohio to “vote their conscience” they were sent to represent the voters that choice Trump to be the GOP nominee. Betray that trust and bad things should happen to you when you get back home.
And this is another reason why McCain needs to go home.
McCain is a real piece of crap. This fool need to be retired to a funny farm before he looks stupid.
Trump for President.
Go ahead Mc Stain. Keep digging. Why doesn’t he live out his life in the pit of hell he helped Obama create in Syria?
any polls or is this going to be another incumbent 60% vs unknown 30% voting result? (again)
Has anyone searched Hillary’s emails for the keyword McCain. I’ll bet there are some juicy ones.
I guess he feels the pain of a Doctor giving him an anal probe! Go Kelli Go!
They took a dive!
Clearly both parties are being run from a single source.
Get ready for November. McCain, Grahm, Collins, Ayotte and a couple of more are going to change pairs if Trump wins. There is no way they are going to let him make policy.
Also, I would not be surprised if he is threatened by the GOP if he doesn’t pick a RINO as his VP choice.

Juan Mc Pain just insulted Trump and supporters again...
By the time the “consequences” kick in, the damage shall have been done. The Republicans lack the necessary party discipline apparatus to have the dissidents summarily ejected from the floor of the convention, and the substitute slate put in as the representatives of the outcome of the vote in that particular state.
“Representative republic” is supposed to define the form of committees adopted by custom and tradition, but it seems to be undergoing a redefinition at the moment.
Undoubtedly. We were twice betrayed.
What a useless POS.
I guess McCain either doesn’t understand the concept of a bound delegate, or else just thinks that these rules should be ignored when they don’t give him the outcome that he wants.
