MONESSEN, Pa. (AP) -- Donald Trump called for a new era of economic "Americanism" Tuesday, promising to restore millions of lost factory jobs by backing away from decades of U.S. policy that encouraged trade with other nations - a move that could undermine the country's place as the dominant player in the global economy.
The speech marked a significant break from years of Republican Party advocacy for unencumbered trade between nations, and drew immediate condemnation from GOP business leaders.

“He was right about NAFTA that swill brought to us by HW and signed by Bill”
Yes.
If Donald Trump becomes president, we will see America slowly rise back into prominence in the world in all aspects...
If Donald Trump is not elected president, we will see America continue to decline until there will either be a revolution or we will meekly die away...
That would have been nice, I ended voting for HW, but Perot had me until he dropped out.
I will admit that I was a free trader. I bought into the idea that it would benefit everyone. I now admit that I was very wrong and people like Perot and Trump were right. Fair trade is only fair on a level playing field. Government in the U.S. at all levels makes it impossible to compete with cheap labor and lack of regulation/taxation. On top of that - the free trade vehicle was used by the big corporations to put the little guys out of business. The corruption that now exists between the big corporations, big bankers, and politicians/bureaucracy is so entrenched it seems impossible to fix.
“Free trade” has been anything but free for the average American.
With that said, automation/robotics is going to fundamentally change our economy in many ways. With our present unemployment levels the last thing we should be doing is importing low skilled workers who won’t be able to find jobs, but will be able to access welfare programs. Even removing labor costs, I still suspect that corporations will move manufacturing out of the U.S. to avoid taxes and regulation unless someone does something drastically different. The only candidate that appears to understand this is Trump.
“...by backing away from decades of U.S. policy that encouraged trade with other nations”
retards.
What a misnomer... real free trade doesn't require the 300+ pages of TTIP.
You are only partially correct. Free trade did not kill middle class jobs. It was STUPID free trade!
Smart free trade benefits both sides. Because of climate, natural resources access, and available labor quality, some countries can manufacture some products better than others. And therefore a mutually beneficial trade benefits both.

Go Trump!
They are rigged trade treaties designed to create a command and control economy that destroys the U.S. Economy.
Country has gone to $hit under NAFTA. The American is getting royally screw*d. Anyone, that does not understand this is a mainstream media brainwashed zombie.
Very true!
1st time I ever voted too.
I voted for Perot, too. But he seems to have practiced the old “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” trick. He and his son have made, and continue to make, millions off of NAFTA trade shipping.
“Perot was right.”
Yes, he was, but as Trump would say “he choked.” The good news is that Trump isn’t going to choke!
The idiot Mark Levin is back to bashing Trump, saying that Herbert Hoover could’ve given the speech. Because the Free Traitors’ policies have been SO good for America
We already have over 12,000 import tatiffs. I don’t understand how increasing the rates or adding new categories will help “the American worker”.

DON’T EVER combine Trump with that blood thirsty, murdering, evil, vile, lying, cheating, stealing POS some of you people want to vote for!!!
You make smarmy comments but know nothing.
Of course YOU are right.
YOU are the smart one.
Probably a very progressive young man (I guess).
Me?
I will stick with Pat Buchanan.
The miscommunication was my fault.
What I was pointing out is that Hillary is a billionaire and doesn’t knew jack squat.
