German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday that the EU could survive a Brexit and warned Britain the union would not tolerate “cherry-picking” in upcoming negotiations on their future relations.

“The EU is strong enough to withstand Britain’s withdrawal,” she told the German parliament ahead of a crisis summit of the 28 member states in Brussels. […]

“We will ensure there are no negotiations based on the principle of cherry-picking,” she said to applause. “There must be and will be a noticeable difference between whether a country wants to be a member of the European Union family or not.”

She added: “Anyone wishing to leave this family cannot expect to lose all the obligations but keep the privileges. This applies to Britain as it does to everyone else.” …

Britain used to be self-sufficient in terms of food, even not having to rely on Irish farms. Ever heard of the Agricultural Revolution there?

That was a few hundred years ago and England began importing food and spices during colonization.

But that was the springboard that gave them the initial power to be able to colonize. The population expansion prompted that move.

Vargas girls were always good. Especially on nose art on B-17s.

Didn’t she shut down all of Germany’s nuclear power plants a few years ago, in a knee jerk reaction to the Tsunami in Japan? Frau Merkel is not very bright. If her rapefugees mess can be cleaned up it is going to take years and blood and treasure to do so. I do hope she is unelected in 2017.

Well, there was the broadcast from Radio Brussels before the Nazis abandoned the city in 1944, attributed to SS general Hans Friedrich.
I know that you are friends of the British; that you are eagerly awaiting the British and American forces. Within a short while, you will fill the streets of Brussels and shout, “At long last they are here; the liberators.” You will acclaim the Allied troops as they march through your streets. You will do so, because you know that Britain has never lost the last battle. But one day, we shall come back. Until then, à bientôt.
It really didn’t take all that long for them to be back, when one looks at history.

Yes looking a lot like 1900 all over again. Why is it that Germany is always making trouble for Europe? What the heck is wrong with the Germans? I feel sorry for poor little Austria, they always get sucked into the troubles Germany makes.

France has not yet surrendered, let see how Marine Le Pen does in her 2017 election

Yes, and they had to fall back on coal power. Their “renewable energy” turned out not to be so renewable.

Europe continues to do and say everything they can to comfort those who were slightly regretful over their “leave” vote.

This is in direct response to Nigel Farage's telling the EU parliament Britain wanted "fair" trade with the EU countries and that they should not be punished for merely wanting to control their own country.

Ultimately, Britain holds the upper hand because Britain holds the Audi, Mercedes Benz, BMW market card.

Hey Angela, the EU would need to have a backbone to oppose anything. Unfortunately, you modeled it after a jellyfish. Good luck.

Regardless, I don’t think threatening the remaining EU members will be a persuasive strategy.

The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through you fingers.

The only reason Merkel's political career will survive this is, she's ****ed up everything so badly, no one will want the job after her. But the Brexit vote has crippled her, and she'll react in her Soviet-trained way, which is, she'll double down.

In one of the many news segs I've viewed the past few weeks, someone pointed out that Germany sells 850,000 autos to the UK, annually. Merkel has it backwards, as usual -- the EU will bow and scrape to the UK, and make sure they get whatever they ask for. The threat of referendums is already very great -- and screwing 25 percent of the trade of the EU countries that is with the UK will not discourage more exits, quite the reverse.

Thank y’all for the info-I guess the Brits will just have to encourage people to build more greenhouses, like people do in colder parts of the US, and learn to grow veggies at home-maybe start getting some flown in from Mexico and S America, too. Argentine and Chilean wines are very nice, reasonably priced, and even available here in BFE at the general store-so that might be better, if the Italians and French get all uppity-and there is always California...
