Chinas new nuclear attack submarine is among the militarys most secretive platforms and the world has just been given its first glimpse.
The Chinese navy has released a rare photo of the Type 093B Shang submarine, which can launch missiles vertically at ships and other targets overhead.
This model improves upon the capabilities of earlier nuclear attack submarines, and is expected to be quieter and faster.
According to the Popular Science blog Eastern Arsenal, this reveal marks an extremely rare event.
Its thought that there were three Type 093B SSNs launched last year.
These were preceded by two Type 093 SSNs, which were launched 15 years ago.
Though they were intended to be stealthy, the Type 093s were equipped with noisy reactors and propulsion systems, the blog explains, and this was only worsened as they climbed to higher speeds.

Not sure about the rest, but, most if not all, China’s ICBMs are mobile, not fixed - as are many of Russia’s ICBMs - especially their newest versions. Only the US and its allies exclusively use fixed silo-based missiles aka easy to target.
They have to load their torpedoes through the torpedo tubes instead topside?
Remember the Chinese sub in 2003 that was found on the surface with its entire crew dead. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_submarine_361
China already has ballistic missile submarines, though they don't deploy them on patrol regularly.
And held together with some quality lead paint.
What do you mean by that? Are you saying that we haven't shipped much of our manufacturing to China? Clarify, and we'll go from there.
You can simply go and do a search on Robbins flooring and you will find that chain stores sell the flooring.
We did pretty good. Appliances, furniture and so forth.
Must admit...illegals probably framed the house, concrete work and sheet rock...grrrrr.
Oh Ya. I have watched as the developers hired mexicans to do the building around here. They paid them less than minimum wage. Whats the Mexicans gonna do? Complin to someone when they are here illegally?
I built my house by myself with the help of friends from the UP of Michigan who are contractors.
BTW, most houses here in AZ have tile flooring, and the concrete cracks. So guess what happenes to that tile when the concrete cracks under it. I laid down subflooring over the concrete slab and put flooring over that.
Your choice of hardwood flooring is a darn good choice.
U make my point!
Conceiving, Developing, building and operating safely and successfully the most up to date attack sub is damn near impossible for all except the US, Britain and Germany.
What’s their common denominator? Gobs of experience!!!
You could publish every plan or spec or diagram there is on one on the front page of the NYT and it all would be Greek to 99.99999999999 % of the worlds population!
Clarify? Me? You’ve switched from “free trade” to “offshore” in two comments. It’s not likely you understand the difference.
That’s been the result of these so called free trade agreements, hasn’t it?
I was a submarine officer and worked at Electric Boat for 5 years. I think you are right, they have a long way to be able to use a submarine correctly. Even if we give them the next copy of the VIRGINIA. However, they still have deadly submarines that can cause a lot of problems.
If you say so.
Yep an them squinty eye, buck tooth Japanese fellers can’t see good enuff to fly neither and what’s more that 6.5 mm rifle they got ain’t powerful enuff to kill a white man....
I agree but with a minor “but”.
I have in my hand a Casio MS 805 calculator. I can rock and roll with it. Years ago though a friend gave me another device that some Engineers somewhere thought it would be funny to call a “calculator” when it truth it would perform ANY math calculation any PHD Math guy could dream up. Thusly, I could not use 10% of it.
Submarines, as you know better than I, are killing machines. The Chinese do not have the experience to conduct bluewater combat using arguably the most complex machine on earth thus it is likely they are following in our path and spending billions on device A when they should be spending those billions on device B.
LOL, I get your “point” but a 6.5 mm rifle, made 75 years ago, is a little bit out of this conversation since we are talking about arguably the most complicated and sophisticated war machine ever devised and operated by man.
That 6.5 mm rifle probably cost about 5 bucks (in million unit quantities) to build back then. I believe the most recent built US attack sub was around 10 billion.
Finally, as we all know, the squinty eyed Japs lost to our marines, soldiers and sailors.....just as a Chinese Sub Captain surely will too....................when the time comes.
Closer to $1.5 billion.
Thanks for correcting my error.
