Byron York: The overlooked substance in Donald Trump's speech
Washington Examiner ^ | 06/24/20116 | Byron York

Posted on 06/24/2016 1:13:38 PM PDT by MaxistheBest

Most coverage of Donald Trump's speech in New York Wednesday has focused on his attacks on Hillary Clinton. Or the fact that he read the speech from a teleprompter. Or the fact that it came amid a period of disorder and change in his campaign.

But Trump included actual substance in the speech — new policy proposals and promises — that escaped many observers. In a series of pledges to take action in his first 100 days as president, Trump said he would move on trade, business regulation, energy, and several other topics.

One area in which Trump promised to take extensive and quick executive action is immigration, with a pledge to "change immigration rules to give unemployed Americans an opportunity to fill good-paying jobs."

What Trump meant is that there are parts of U.S. immigration policy — significant parts — that could be changed through executive action, or regulation, or simply enforcing existing law. For example, there are programs for the admission of foreign workers — the various alphabet programs like H-1B visas, EB-2 and EB-3 green cards, etc. — that have weak or nonexistent requirements that businesses hire, or try to hire, an American first. It's a concept that has huge public support, but one the government does not enforce. A President Trump could change that, on his own authority.

“There is one common theme in all of these reforms,” Trump said. “It’s going to be America First.”

This can’t be true because the media tells me he has offered no substance, only emotion and fear

“Or the fact that he read the speech from a teleprompter”

Incredible that the state run media would criticize Trump for reading from a TtelePrompTer. Especially considering Obama cannot go off script for a single moment without messing up his speech.

Our presstitutes homing in on an area of NO importance, for a reason. They want people to think the Donald is like them. NO thoughts, no truth, no news.
The Donald talked about just about everything he’s been talking about since the day he threw his “Make American Great Again” hat into the presidential candidate’s ring.
Our so called news media is a pitiful group of people who repeat only what is written for them or repeat what the other presstitutes are saying. (Let me tell you what I think of the media)

Trump had a good message in this speech, and will need to repeat the message many times before it’s properly publicized. Most reporters would rather talk about fluff topics, like the hat he wears or whether his hair is all real. The reader needs to shop around to get a steady diet of truth.

That’s true. But unlike Obama who just blathers or Hillary who speaks in lies and focus-group tested cliches, Trump speaks plainly in langauge that every American can understand without being told what he said by the Smart People ;-)

I had a friend who lost his tech job, not to an H1B, but to a tech located in India. The design work and meetings take place over the Internet. He worked briefly with his replacement and discovered the man was making one third as much.

Boy, ain't that the truth.
No matter how the news pieces are cued up, the reporters just ignore them and pile on the krap.
Truly amazing - and sickening - to watch.

The only Executive Orders I approve of, would come in two categories.

One:

He should use Executive Orders to undo all of Obama’s/Clinton’s/and even Bush’s (if there are any) treachery via Executive Order.

Two:

He should return to using Executive Orders for the valid purposes they were designed for.

No man should rule by fiat.

Part of the reason a lot of the points of Trumps speech were missed was because Paul Ryan, who wants to run for President in 2020, allowed the Dems to have their sit down.

Ryan could have prevented it, but this was a part of his endless fragging of Trump

Most of the talking heads also use a teleprompter for their longwinded commentaries.

Teleprompters are a non-issue. Politicians have used them forever.

Pericles used teleprompters for his Funeral Oration.
Mark Antony used teleprompters at Julius Caesar's funeral.
Washington used teleprompters for his Farewell Address.

Look at the exceptions. Rehoboam refused to use a teleprompter, and what was the result? The Ten Northern Tribes revolted.

Be sure that Trump will not waste time, that he will issue the appropriate orders to change policy within literally hours or days of assuming office. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that he’s signed a bunch of E.O.s in the afternoon of Inauguration Day, before all of the parties start that night. You don’t get things done by sitting around and waiting, you get them by taking action - that’s how Trump built his empire, and that’s not going to change when he becomes President.

The only reason for this is that they are attempting to distract the public from the substance of the speech - because that is deadly to Hillary. Focus on crap, and people tune out...which is what they Left wants.
