One left. Time to open that famous bottle and drink a toast.
Wow. Just wow.
Where do we get such men? Thank you, sir, may you be eternally blessed.
I watched the last salute broadcast live. Moved to tears to see these men. Very tough to see them go.
Do not watch Ted Turner’s colorized version of “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.” They have the Army Air Corps uniforms in Marine Corps forest green.

Radio Address to the Nation on Armed Forces Day
May 15, 1982
In James Michener’s book “The Bridges at Toko-Ri,” he writes of an officer waiting through the night for the return of planes to a carrier as dawn is coming on. And he asks, “Where do we find such men?” Well, we find them where we’ve always found them. They are the product of the freest society man has ever known. They make a commitment to the militarymake it freely, because the birthright we share as Americans is worth defending. God bless America.
God bless him.
Never have, never will.
For that movie, black and white is best.

Info on 100 year old Lt. Col. Dick Cole, the last Doolittle airman.
Picture of Thatcher is down aways, from 2006.
Dick Cole usually comes to this event on Georgetown,DE every year. He is ambulatory and very self effacing as he tells the tale of the Doolittle Raid and he answers questions from the crowd, which I have witnessed myself:
Wings and Wheels 2016:
I did not know there had been a remake.
“Do NOT waste your time with the newer remake of ‘Thirty Seconds over Tokyo . . . “
Every time the “filmmakers” of today remake one of the old movies, it is a dismal failure. Why do they continue trying something that is impossible?
79 more shining stars in Heaven!
The remaining survivors did that a few years back.
Do NOT waste your time with the newer remake of Thirty Seconds over Tokyo . . . “
And they probably rewrote the story where the Tusceegee airmen flew the B-25’s right?
Yet another member of the Race of Giants that we Lesser Children are descended from leaves us.
The coming storm will tell us if we have what they had.
There wasn’t a remake per se, the Doolittle Raid (or at least a highly fictionalized version of it) was included in Michael Bay’s “Pearl Harbor”
With Alec Baldwin playing Jimmy Doolittle. Enough said.
