A police officer who was one of the first to arrive at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando has claimed he was made to wait while Omar Mateen wandered around the club gunning people down.
The FBI said this week that police first responders 'engaged the shooter' inside the club at 2.08am but Officer Brandon Cornwell said he had been told to wait for a SWAT team to arrive.
It is known that Mateen, who was heavily armed with an AR-15 assault rifle and a handgun and was feared to be carrying explosives, had an exchange of fire with a security guard when he first arrived at the LGBT club, which was holding its regular Latino night.

Seem to recall an episode maybe in Ohio some years after Columbine where they did it differently and went quick and stopped the perp. There was hope of a new idea but it has since returned to the wait and die routine.

At the rate that this perp was shooting people like fish in a barrel, WHO gave the order to hold back?
In this type of situation, the only objective is to neutralize the threat, and minimize the damage done. In this situation, there will be casualties. The objective is to neutralize the threat with the minimum.
It means the difference between 5 dead, and 50 dead.

That's actually a very intelligent analysis. It connects several points that have been bouncing around inside my head since the disaster. Unfortunately, it seems lessons learned at Columbine have been lost again.
We knew this.
So the pecking order is blacks are more important that hispanics, gays are more important than blacks, and muslims are more important than gays...at least for now.
On Monday night, officials clarified that the rifle Omar Mateen used in the shooting was not an AR-15, but a Sig Sauer MCX rifle.
* It is no longer just called "active shooter", the term has been changed to "active aggressor" since we've seen beheadings, knives, use of alternate weapons, threat of explosives, etc.
* Without disclosing anything that has not already been portrayed in movies and in other stories, the old tactics of "sealing it off and calling SWAT", or, "wait 'til the negotiator gets here" seems to not be a current working theory, although may still be appropriate in certain circumstances.
* Following Columbine, tactics were changed to ad hoc tactical teams, and I'll just leave it at that.
* The current thoughts, IMHO, are to aggressively take out the bad actor ASAP.
I am not being critical of Orlando PD - none of us were there - but it will be interesting to hear the full time-line, decision points, and rationale for the tactics that were ultimately used.

So, who gave the order? A full explanation should be required.
Welcome to the fixed lexicon of propaganda by media. I have yet to read a single story about the Deep Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that didn't contain the word "spew". Evidently none of these media morons owns a thesaurus or even knows what one is.
The more this story develops, the more obvious it is that Mateen was an agent of Valerie Jarrett.

OUCH! but true.
I always thought the police would always respond quickly once a bad guy started shooting away to try to prevent further loss of innocent life, in so much as possible.
If a bad guy isn’t shooting, then the police will not act until they have a plan and are ready to put it into action.

Or shooting unarmed motorists trying to comply and get their ID or unbuckle their seatbelt to exit the vehicle as instructed. (The FBI shot a kid in the face for trying to do just that. The FBI got off.)
This is inexcusable after Columbine. If you hear shooting you go in. Orlando PD screwed the pooch big time on this one. The officer had an AR and handgun and there were more than one officer present. My son who is an officer in training when he heard it took three hours from beginning to end of the event, said something is wrong here, bad wrong on the police end.
