One of my part-time coastal neighbors is an engineer at Intel in Hillsboro. He says the atmosphere there these days is horrible. They’ve already laid off hundreds, and they’re re-evaluating how many more cuts they’re going to have to make at that campus. The bloodletting should be completed by the end of this month. He’s worried about his own job, with two kids to put through college.
Ha ha.
Now pull the other one.
Yep, my co-workers fight tooth and nail to get their kids hired as temps in the Summer. One co-workers daughter is sharp as a tack, cute, responsible and has only had one other seasonal job in her life despite constantly applying since 16. She’s 20 now and happy as heck to have a $14/hour job for 5 months.
The national economy sucks, but the economy in Oregon is abysmal. A state that has ridiculous natural resources, strategically placed, with good ports, great tourism, and no jobs.
Do you think maybe the political/cronyism atmosphere has something to do with the crappy economy?
I see y’all have the same sense I do....sheesh. If SEIU manages to get the tax they want passed....we will likely move out of the state....don’t want to...but, it will be the death knell.
Its amazing how “full employment” can still be achieved with 50 million adult Americans out of the work force
