A partial federal ban on gay men donating blood is "discriminatory" and hurtful in that it turned away potential donors after the June 12 massacre that killed 49 men and women at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, 24 U.S. Senators said in a letter Monday.
Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., were among 23 Democrats and one Republican -- Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Illinois -- who signed the letter to U.S. Food and Drug Administration commissioner Dr. Robert Califf.
...
"Yet, some of those most touched by this tragedy -- members of the LGBT community, who are especially eager to contribute to the response effort -- are finding themselves turned away."
...
"Based on advances in science and blood screening and safety technology, we expect that the new, one-year deferral policy is just the first step toward ending discrimination against MSM (men who have sex with men) in our donor deferral policies," the senators wrote.
"A one-year deferral continues to perpetuate inaccurate stereotypes about an entire group of individuals, and remains a de facto lifetime ban for many healthy gay and bisexual men."

Note the question asked of women:
“Female donors: Had sexual contact with a male who had sexual
contact with another male in the past 12 months?”
I re-read the bill of rights. Where was the right to donate blood again. I may have overlooked it.
You are damn right it is.
And plenty of legit reasons for it.
I believe the lovely custom of anal sex is the source of the diseases that they contract and spread.
Homosexual women don’t ordinarily indulge in that particular practice.
No one has any “right” to donate blood.
I don’t if the U.S. has any criminal or civil penalties for lying about one’s background when donating blood, but Australia not only has them, but makes sure that donors are fully aware of them:
“Of note, donors in Australia must sign a declaration in the presence of blood center staff that they understand that there are penalties, including fines and imprisonment, for providing false or misleading information. No such declaration is required in the United States, nor are donors advised of penalties for providing false or misleading information.”

No but they do other gross stuff, and they have a lot higher rates of diseases than normal women.
They also have higher rates of alcoholism and obesity.
The obesity is tied into distancing themselves from men. Makes them less attractive. Not that it is entirely done consciously.
It’s about time they discriminate.
The job of Congress IS TO DISCRIMINATE!
They are to DIS (separate) — CRIM (illegitimate from legitimate activity) — MIN (impart unto) -—ATE (Action of the party).
DISCRIMINATE!
Or we will find somebody who is able to discriminate.
They can’t even figure out how to find a difference between genders.
Another example of liberalism being a mental disorder...the policies about donating blood have to do with who gets donated blood injected into their bodies - not the ‘rights’ of the people giving to the blood bank.
Utter insanity.
Well, lying on Form 4473 didn’t result in that Reporterette being charged for a Straw Purchase of that AR-15 the other day, did it?

I live in Illinois and you can count on me to not vote for the S.O.B.
***** “Let gay men indiscriminately donate blood...as long as it is properly cataloged and used only for muslim patients” ****
I think it should be a Worldwide Standard ... those little bags of blood should have the Blue UN Helmet LOGO proudly displayed on each and every one. Then I would Ration them.
That info is very helpful. Intuitively I would have never come up with that conclusion. So they exclude from the blood supply on the front end those donations which when tested would almost always prove defective.
I'd like to see each of these Senators bring their children down and have each get a pint of blood from some random queer blood donor, just as a demonstration of their sincerity.
They've been in far more toxic environments and much more recently than me.
Time for me to stand up for my rights and demand they take my blood and damn the risks....
HIV Among Gay and Bisexual Men
Murray and Cantwell have decided the feelings of gays are more important than the consequences of allowing those in a high risk group donate blood.
My suggestion to these morons is if they or members of their families ever need a transfusion, use blood donated from anonymous members of a high-risk group. Will never happen.
