What is the best advice you have heard from your dad or any dad ?
Who remembers being the remote control for the TV?
Quite a few. He was born June 17, 1921 and has been gone since 1995. WWII navy vet, both theaters. He was a great gardener but would frown at my flowers, saying “you can’t eat flowers” All the while he had 3 rosebushes he doted over besides his vegetables. Another was “He’s a commie” he had commie radar. Probably the most memorable was after any election (Illinois) he would say “It’s all rigged.” (about politics). Happy Father’s Day Pop.
"The best way to survive in the combat infantry is to not volunteer for anything."
Thank God there were only three channels.
My dad was a man of few words. It wasn’t what he said. It was what he did.
“Straighten up your act or you will be walking down the side of the road kicking road apples.”
“Liberalism must be destroyed.” With apologies to my Dad.
May you cherish the time you had with him and keep those happy memories and the example he set for you.
May he rest in peace.
Do it right the first time, and stay the hell out of healthcare!
My dad died in March after 7 years of Alzheimer’s.
He wasn’t much of an advice giver but I think one of the things he always said helps a lot. “Everybody’s in the same boat.” It was kind of his whole attitude to his fellow human beings. We ARE all in it together. Dad could talk as easily to the CEO as the janitor. Everyone who knew him really liked him.
He wanted me to travel the world and learn other languages. He wanted to experience everywhere and especially eat all the foods.
Going to his gravesite today with all my kids. I was lucky to have an unconditional-loving dad.
“Don’t f... the help”
Nobody owes you a living, so shut up and get back to work.
I was 13 when he gave me that sage advice. Never forgot it.
My. Dad told me many times “Wish in one hand, and shit in the other. See which one fills first “.
When I was out of work and unable to make my truck payment, my dad gave me the name of a horse to put my last $150 on. It was a real Hallmark moment.
the squeaky wheel gets the grease- always speak up
Mine told me, “Never start a fight, always end it.”
And...
Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.
If your not enjoying your work then you need to find something else to do. You spend too much time working not to enjoy your life.
No, that poster meant HE is stealing it from your dad!
