But Frank Stelmach of Double Tap Shooting Range and Gun Shop invited me, videographer Michael Sheridan and reporter Adam Shrier to come down. Stelmach is not like many gun lovers. He admires his weaponry, yes, and has difficulty explaining why law-abiding citizens need a gun that can empty a 40-round magazine in a few seconds. But he also hates the idea that bad people get a hold of a gun like this and use it to kill without difficulty.
There should be expanded background checks extending into your family, friends and associates, he said. And there should be a mental health screening. In Europe, if you want to buy a gun, you have to see a doctor (for a psychiatric examination) to see if somethings not right.
......
The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions loud like a bomb gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.

Authors last name is perfect.
KUNTZman
He pronounces it “koontz.”
Or a Thompson .45 Carl Burp Gun
Recoil affects different people differently.
I am 6’3” and weigh 295. I used to work with a guy who was around 5’8” and about 160.
He had just bought a new model 94 Commemorative. I can’t remember which one but it had plenty of gold and a brass curved butt plate.
I had my Sharps 54 cal. It loaded from the rear but used black powder.
Now the Sharps loaded with 90 grains of fffg just seemed to give me a push. My friend said it actually hurt him.
Just the opposite with the model 94. It really hurt my shoulder, I think the curved butt plate was part of the problem. He said it did not bother him at all.
This Pansy must be NUTS!
It’s Pronounced Pussy no matter how he spells it.
The peculiarthing I’ve see firing black powder hand guns vs smokless is the black powder guns give a push when they recoul, while the smokeless guns, especially in .357 magnum, give a hard, quick crack.
This has got to be satire.
Nice...and yeah, skinny 7year olds can handle the recoil.
Nah, he lacks the depth if not the warmth.
There is almost no recoil with an AR-15. It is not a particularly loud rifle.
Unless you are left-handed, no spent brass went past your face bozo.
Finally, there is no such thing as "temporary PTSD". I am both a veteran and a practicing Psychologist. You turn of phrase is an insult to the men and women who have that condition.
Which is especially helpful if you're an MSM journalist who writes fiction for a living...
***model 94. It really hurt my shoulder,***
I had one of those many years ago, a Canadian Centennial model. It really hurt my shoulder in 30-30, yet i can shoot all day with a regular old 30-30.
ALL rifles except muzzle loaders are illegal to hunt deer in Illinois.

Snowflakes shouldn’t fire guns.
Substantial :)
Yes I think it was the curved butt plate which caused the pain.
I have owned maybe 15 30-30 lever actions since 1974. None of them bothered me at all.
Oddly the best one I ever had was a post 64 with that crappy iron like receiver which had lost all it’s bluing. I got it from a pawn shop owner who was bringing 3 guns to get rid of at the show.
He let me have the Winchester, a rusty Moisin and a decent Revelation brand 20 gauge single shot. All for $90.
The Winchester (actually it was a Sears JC Higgins) had a really nice Redfield receiver sight with target knobs and a Sour dough front. Well the sights were probably worth more than the rifle.
Anyway that 30-30 turned out to be a jewel. The action was really slick and in every way, feeding, loading, ejecting etc. It was also more accurate than most 94s and by a good bit.
I really wish I had kept it as it was the perfect knock around gun. Ugly but good.
I unfortunately don’t own any firearms that shoot 13 rounds per second.
