Gun Shop Owner: AR-15's Flying Off Shelves at $500 a Pop

Since the Orlando nightclub shooting on Sunday, gun sales have rapidly increased throughout the United States.

Adventure Outdoors Owner Jay Wallace told Fox Business Network’s Stuart Varney that sales of AR-15s and other firearms have “really kicked up” since Sunday.

AR-15’s may look like military rifles but they are actually semi-automatic guns, which means they can only fire one round with each pull of the trigger. By contrast, military-style guns have the ability to fire multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger. The ‘AR’ in AR-15 actually stands for ArmaLite rifle, named after the company that developed it and does not stand for “assault rifle,” according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

Wallace claimed that he has sold more than 15 AR-15’s per hour and may know the reasons as to why there is such a rise in sales.

Yeah, me too. But I already had mine before I hit the 60. Last week I arrived at the 9th anniversary of my 60th birf day.

I don’t think the seniors will put up with much crap any more.

We "seniors" are the ones who gave you this mess in the first place. I wouldn't wait for "seniors" to make a difference one way or the other.

You may be able to find a used on for sale and they normally show up in .556. Different calibers are probably gonna cost you more money. Shop around if it’s legal in your state to do private sales still.

How do you like the AR556? I was thinking about dumping my AR and Mini-14 to pick one up. Unfortunately, boat, capsize.... You know the rest of the story.

I must have a level 2 assault rifle (ancient Remington 30-06 pump) mark my words, the gun grabbers will get to that level.

Those quislings are not going to try to ban the most popular sporting rifle in the US.

All this sound and fury by the gun control left is a last ditch dying gasp because they know Trump is likely to win the presidency and they can kiss any chance at gun control bye bye for at least 8 more years.

I see very base variants for sale for $500 fairly often. Usually without dust covers, forward assists, or any rail system. Like anything else, you spend more for better quality/options.

Got an M&P15 Sport for about $560.00 all in from a place where they sell weapons by the 10 foot cube in the middle of the store when they're on "special". Only bought it to fill out a possible future need at a good price. Keep my Marlin 1894 in 44 by the bed.

My Grandfather’s originally. I bagged several deer and other critters before I lost my heart for hunting other than quail and doves. I take it out and shoot it about once a year. Open sights of course. Nice saddle gun.

The smith and Wesson mp sport 2 AR-15 goes for around that price and is an excellent weapon. I bought one for my boy down here in Florida and it handles as good as my Colt, which cost me twice as much. Order one online and have it shipped to your dealer. You can’t go wrong.

The smith and Wesson mp sport 2 has a dust cover and forward assist and it goes for that price. The original sport model doesn’t. It’s a great value. All you need to instal is a 40 dollar quad rail and your in business.

They had a number of boxes of .22LR at my local WalMart here in Maine a week ago. 500 per box. Salesman said they came in that afternoon.

Yesterday, they didn’t have any.

Recently, the digital sign in front of Maine Military Supply in Holden, Maine near Bangor had a message, “We Have Lots of .22LR in stock.”

“Better buy one quick, the Feds will want to ban these semi-automatic rifles but will likely grandfather pre-law guns.”

The bill is already in Congress since last December, and the ban includes “shall be unlawful to possess” a WHOLE LOT of things..
Just the list of specific guns is a huge.
The grandfathering clauses are selective and hard for me to sort out. The wording is complicated, and there are far better legal experts on FR than I.
IOW, seems to me the door is being opened for confiscation.
It’s been in the Homeland Security committee for awhile now. You can sign up for emailed alerts to follow it.

Look for an increase as time goes on, car trunk sales of guns to get around any new laws.

“What would be a good variant for someone on a tight budget?

Caliber, etc?”

One way to go would be to get a stripped lower, and then slowly get the various parts to build it up. The lower is the part regulated under gun transfer laws. The rest you can get either over the counter, or directly mailed to your house. By doing it this way you can get high-quality components over time, rather than settling for a “budget” rifle. Plus, you’ll learn ton about ARs. One very important area where there are a lot of options is the type/make of trigger. The basic military trigger is usually pretty heavy and gritty.

One very cool thing about AR-15 type rifles is the lower can accept any AR upper (barrel, rail, and handguard), and they are easily swapped. Uppers are available in a variety of chamberings and calibers. They aren’t considered a “gun” so there’s no red tape involved in getting one or more.
