Canadian lawmakers have voted to change the country’s national anthem to make the lyrics gender neutral, a move that comes as the new Liberal government focuses on being more inclusive toward women.
The bill would change the English version of O Canada to remove the words “in all thy sons command” and replace them with “in all of us command”.

But of course. We have to be liberal. We live in a liberal world. Of course it’s offensive to women to have a line which was written as “sons”.
We deal with this in our own country.
Ever notice how few people say “founding fathers” of our country? Liberals say either “founders” or “framers” of the constitution. Reason being, in the liberal mind, it’s offensive to women to say founding fathers, even though all of them were men.
Or I should say, they all identified as men, as far as we know. Liberal revisionist historians may well cite some of them as identifying as female, but there were no hormone treatments or sex change operations back then. So they had to suffer as women trapped in their male body.
Doesn’t affect rhythm, rhyme, or metre.
No big deal.
Well, thank goodness this is being done. We have no problems up here in Canada, thus we look after important issues like this right away.
I miss Mr. Harper. He was a man.
Liberals everywhere seem to be in a mad rush to eliminate any vestige of culture that acknowledges men and women are different.
On the other hand, while they preach equality, liberals do everything they can to keep blacks and other minorities concentrating on their racial, ethnic and social differences.
And liberals do their very best to make sure that blacks and other minorities keep thinking they are different and separate from each other and from whites and to keep us all from finding common ground.
Come to think of it, getting rid of “thy” makes sense, too.
It’s not like people talk that way.
The song was originally a French Canadian one. The first lyrics were French. It’s the English version that has undergone many changes. No doubt more to come in the future too.
As a kid I went to first grade in Montreal, and learned your beautiful anthem, “O Canada”. I will still sing and repeat the original words.
I bet Mr. Harper will too.

How about getting rid of “rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air” from the US anthem. Too violent.
