Florida Rep. Alan Grayson used the aftermath of Sunday’s Islamic terror attack to claim AR-15 semi-automatic rifles can fire 700 rounds per minute.
Security guard Omar Mateen killed 49 people and wounded over 50 others during an attack on a gay nightclub — the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Mr. Grayson, a Democrat, was asked about the massacre and soon turned his attention to the AR-15 rifle.

“If [Mr. Mateen] was not able to buy a weapon that shoots off 700 rounds in a minute, a lot of those people would still be alive,” the congressman said. “If somebody like him had nothing worse to deal with than a Glock pistol … he might have killed three or four people and not 50. It’s way too easy to kill people in America today, and we have to think long and hard about what to do about that.”
CNN’s Erin Burnett then replied, “You’re right about that.”
Conrad Close, the conservative editor in chief of American Crossroads, then offered $50,000 to the charity of Mr. Grayson’s choice if he accomplish the feat,

I was reading some stuff on DU this morning and one of the self proclaimed "reasonable" gun grabbers was going on at length about why anyone would need an AK-15 in the first place.
I believe that this qualifies as example of Perfect Stupidity.

One assumes that there is sufficient ammo in a belt-feed situation. The site below says 700 to 950 Rnds/min.

But yes, the M4 isn’t built to handle sustained fire rates like that. It’s a burst weapon at best and with a 30 rnd mag, (100, if you get one of those poly ones, which from what I’ve read don’t work especially well).
I would think that after one 700 round minute that the whole weapon would be liquid.

If I had a nickel for the times they referenced his weapon as “automatic” yesterday I’d be rich.
Witness reports and actual victims support a more likely scenario of a full-auto 9mm sub-machinegun. Multiple magazine reloads. A surviving victim took 12 rounds. Believable with 9mm, but not with 5.56 NATO ammo.

It was 3 hours before SWAT finally breached. He could havve killed 50 people with a big knife in 3 hours.
Even the Thompson .45 Cal Tommy Gun can’t fire that high of a rate of fire.
He also said that they are easy to convert to fully auto by searching the web for DIY videos.
