Now that President Obama has formally endorsed his former secretary of state for president, its no longer possible for him or a Justice Department directly answerable to him to rule impartially on whether she or her close associates should be indicted over her mishandling of classified emails....

Yeah, right .... Then they can start the investigation all over....
Unlike others around here, and the media that’s working overtime to somehow put some lip gloss on this corrupt sow, I think the FBI is going to put the hammer down on her. And things are going to get more than a little crazy.
Far too late. Her plan is to win and then pardon herself.
I agree. I think that the FBI is going to make a spectacular recommendation that Obama cannot ignore. I think they have her for treason
a squad of uniformed Armed Services members should walk into the Oval Office and state the following “ Mr. President , you are under arrest , for crimes against the United States of America and intentional malfeasance in office , amounting the high treason . You will come with us sir “
Wouldn’t it be a special council? That would stop the FBI investigation cold and probably not be heard from before the election.
Chances of an indictment just went down to zero.
They have him too
Comey can only investigate, not indict. Lynch will never indict. Hence the need for a SP.
If there is an airtight case and Lynch does not indict, the fallout will be huge. Think Nixonian. The world will know Clinton is guilty ad h*** and they’ll know that Obama is covering for her. Every minute detail of the criminal referral will be leaked. The FBI will be in an uproar. Obama doesn’t want that as part of his legacy.
With an SP, Lynch/Obama can wash their hands of all of it and proceed to tar and feather the SP a la Ken Starr. That’s what he wants. He set the table for that with his endorsement. He can’t be allowed to get that.
This is Obama’s baby. He’s walking a delicate line. I’m not entirely sure that he doesn’t want Hillary out of the way, but he has to do it in such a way to make it appear he did everything to help her out, even to the point of endorsing her and working for her election. So if the indictment pans out, he can wring his hands with sorrow and say how sorry he is, he had no choice, blah, blah. Now let’s all join hands, sing Kum Ba Yah, and unite behind Plugs with Warren as VP (to appease the Bernie voters).
He might appoint a special prosecutor.
But only as a delay tactic to spin this out past the election.
No it won't. All it does is let one more elite off the hook, and that is status quo. What drives the law for the elite in this country, is the press. The press was against Nixon, so he lost. The press is for Hillary, so she's safe.
Yes, that seems reasonable. Because even if Hillary survived all this and became POTUS, there's no guarantee she would not turn on Obama. It would be payback time and there is much bad blood between the Clintons and Obama. Hey, she can use him to put a little distance between herself and "worst POTUS ever" award!
Biden, by comparison, is a good sport and has no bone to pick with Obama. Unlike Hillary, Biden would be protective of the Obama record, the Obama brand.
But still, I think in the end it's all kind of moot because she's not in good health, and could falter at any time -- before the election, or shortly after.
I am not so sure. If the FBI has already completed their investigation and makes a referral to the AG for prosecution and she does nothing then a special prosecutor is the only way forward.
It should take no time at all because the investigation is already complete.
You’re missing one thing. The media hated Nixon and beat the drum to have him impeached.
the media loves Hillary and will downplay any bad acts.
I realize there are a lot of unprincipled Rats who would vote for Shrillary even if she was caught on tape committing murder, but I also believe that there are a fair number principled Rats (oxymoron, maybe) who would not support nor vote for someone who was the target of an outstanding criminal referral.
If the FBI makes a criminal referral, Obama and Lynch can’t “whitewash” the situation. They have these main choices (as I see it and there may be many more and nuances of those I list), none of which are very palatable and all are fraught with dire political consequences:
1. They can refuse to do their jobs and not pursue prosecution. That would be grounds for impeachment. Every jot and tittle of the referral would be leaked and they would surely have FBI career officers resigning in disgust who would not be shy about spilling their stories to the press.
2. They can pursue prosecution saying they’re doing their jobs, yet proclaim Shrillary a victim who is innocent until proven guilty and appear to stand by her calling the whole thing a witch hunt. To appear cavalier about such a serious matter would also tick off the career FBI guys and girls.
3. They can pursue prosecution and throw her under the bus (she’ll have plenty of Obama cast offs under there to keep her company), claiming they are so sorry to do this, but they are saving the country. Then proceed to thrust Biden or someone handpicked into the presidential fray.
4. Make the case for a special prosecutor. Once one is in place, he/she will be trashed and discredited 24/7.
I don’t see Obama going to the mat to protect the Clintons. He has to appear sympathetic and do all he can to keep the party together, but why would he risk his legacy for the Clintons?
Obama is the most lawless president in our lifetimes, if not ever. And neither the do nothing RINOS in congress nor a press that worships him has done a thing about that to date. Why would think they’d pressure him or threaten impeachment now, especially when (a) the RINOS are terrified of reviving the “war on women” meme by standing up to Hillary; (b) the press is in the tank for Hillary.
Obama is quite confident he can do nothing, protect Hillary, and it won’t tarnish his legacy any more than any other crooked thing he’s done.
If there is a criminal referral to the DOJ (and that is a big if), there are a lot of unknown variables. What Trump does is one. The FBI reaction is another. Every single elected official in the country would have to decide whether or not they are on the side of law and order or on the side of lawlessness and corruption. Maybe Obama can get away with ignoring the law, but a two bit congressman or senator in a swing district/state cannot. And the vaunted press to which you refer - which side would they be on? They’ll have to choose.
If Shrillary wins the presidency, she would have control of the DOJ. Who will want to put their integrity and even their very lives on the line for her knowing that she believes she is the sole arbiter of what laws are to be enforced and what laws are to be ignored?
The implications of this are not confined to merely Obama and Shrillary. They are far reaching.
Shrillary would be severely damaged goods the moment she places her hand on the Holy Bible to take the oath. No one will trust her. No one will believe her.
Let’s just hope and pray she and her miscreant husband never get close to the White House ever again.
and then finish without any real closure 4 to 5 years later... Remember Ken Starr?
At least that's negative news for public consumption.
