The city wants to spend big so there's no bang for Staten Island's bucks.
Comptroller Scott Stringer is allowing the city to fast-track the contracting process on a $2 million plan to perform vasectomies on the borough's male deer.

An unrestrained and expanding deer herd can harm parks and private property, spread tick-borne illness and wander into roads more often, increasing the risk for deadly vehicle collisions.

If the city's plan works ... hundreds of bucks would be tranquilized, captured, given vasectomies and released back onto Staten Island parkland over the course of the three-year study.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and other city officials have agreed that this is the fastest and most humane way to limit further growth of the Island's potentially dangerous white-tailed population.
But several wildlife experts think the plan won't work because the city is ignoring basic deer biology and conventional herd management practices. Some called the proposal "really stupid" and "incredibly foolish."

I would not want to be in the middle of that operation of the buck somehow came out of the anesthesia.

So from what I understand, this is counter productive. The females will go into heat. Do they go into heat over and over if they don’t get pregnant?
what I’m thinking is that one fertile stud can service many many females. If they are continually available for mating until they get pregnant, even a single fertile stud can still be active and upset the goals of this program.
I’d rather see immigrants get this treatment.
Deer meat can be pretty yucky depending on what they’re eating. We’ve had some deer meat that was only good for jerky and then it was tolerable only after soaking in teriyaki and drying it.
It would be much cheaper to allow longer hunting seasons and ‘Doe Days’ like we have...................................and we still have too many deer........................
It’s a good start, but they should put in place a similar plan for the rabbits, skunks, and raccoons, too.

Hey, what’s another couple million on top of $20+ trillion of state debt? When the collapse comes and the civil war starts, none of it will get paid back anyway.
I don’t think they anesthetize them when they do it. I know they don’t when they do farm animals like pigs and cows.
