PPP's new Pennsylvania poll finds a close race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the state, although both a generic Democratic candidate and Bernie Sanders have more substantial leads that bode well for Clinton's chances if she can get the party unified around her in the weeks ahead.
Clinton has 41% to 40% for Trump, with Gary Johnson at 6% and Jill Stein at 3%. In a head to head match up, Clinton and Trump tie at 44%. Similarly to what we found on the Florida poll we released yesterday, Republicans are more unified around Trump (79/8) than Democrats are around Clinton (75/15). That dynamic is what's making the state competitive.
Democrats lead a generic ballot question for President 45/41, which is pretty similar to Barack Obama's margin of victory in the state in 2012. Bernie Sanders has a substantial advantage over Trump, 45/36, with Johnson at 5% and Stein at 1%. In a head to head contest Sanders leads Trump 51/39.

um.... no way in the world that 12% are undecided about Hillary.
that missing 12% will eventually come around to voting for Trump or stay home.
Trump is going to take this state.
If Trump takes PA, he will win....
Looks to me like the analysis is saying the opposite. If (I realize a big if) the Sanders supporters break for Hitlery, that’ll give the state to the Demon Rats.
Overall the number clearly show Pennsylvania would much rather have a Democrat.
Once 0bama has his meeting with Bernie and Bernie fully endorses Hillary, PA will be long gone for Trump.
“If Trump takes PA, he will win....”
Yes. PA is so Democratic if Trump takes it it means there is a national trend the broke his way.
I will wait until October to see how the race is before I get excited about PA.
Democrat leads on the generic ballot question.
PA will go for Hillary.
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh always make the state go Blue.
I don’t expect it to be any different this year.
Trump has a chance in PA this year, but I would not bet the farm on that state. He might have a better chance in Michigan.
You mean Red. Red is Communist.
Rank and file union members WILL vote Trump quietly regardless of what bosses say, they KNOW their jobs are being driven overseas and immigrants are replacing them!!! Trump WILL win PA.
Yup. With all the vote fraud in Philly, forget about it.
Trump isn’t going to spend a lot of time in PA.
If he does, he still won’t swing the state in his column.
You’re kidding, right? The unions elected a Democratic governor and a Supreme Court that could eventually end GOP control of the statehouse.
Its as bad there as it gets. Its the demographics plus vote fraud, stupid.
Trump is running on a lot of winning issues that weren't in play with previous GOP nominees. His positions on trade, border security and jobs resonate with a lot of blue collar people who normally vote Democrat.
Not only is PA winnable for Trump but so is NJ, NY, MI, OH, FL and CA. This is not your normal year and Trump is not your normal GOP candidate.
Too early to take the polls too seriously. But I assume Trump is outperforming Romney and McCain in PA...a good sign.
Hillary’s original plan was to be cornated in March and have a few polite debates with Jeb (who likely wrote his concessi9n speech to the first woman president a few years ago). Well now she’s got to compete.
OMG, it’s June and your packing it in already? Show some confidence. Jeez Louis.
Yep and why he is going to win PA. No one can move the needle like Trump.
OH and FL can be won under the right conditions.
NY, NJ and CA are so Deep Blue they’re basically a Hillary lock.
We’ll have to see what the numbers look like in October and whether Trump can put Hillary on the defensive.
There are four months left to see which candidate can best make their case to the American people.
Im from PA this state is unfortunately blue.
PA is a tease but in the end always goes D.
There’s a reason the Democrats are holding their convention in Philadelphia.
