From where? The aircraft was too high for a shoulder fired missile. There is no chance of a land based missle with the proper range, if you’re going to blame a ship, then which ship? You can’t keep an entire crew silent, not about something like this.

I concur.

According to reports, the plane was at 16,000 feet when it exploded about 12 minutes into the flight.

The FIM-92 Stinger has a range of 16,000 to 25,000 feet depending on what source you read. So why do you rule out a shoulder fired missile.

The only possible explanation was that an exercise involving a target drone hit the plane. There was no explosive residue found, only “pass through”-—although that certainly wasn’t conclusive.

A Freeper whose name I forget, an aviation specialist, went through the details including photos at great length years ago. He debunked any missile strike. But even for those who still claim it was a missile, as you correctly say, 800 was too high for a Stinger. Only a Navy Standard missile could have hit it-—but 800 would have been utterly shattered. Instead, there is pretty good evidence that a door developed some sort of bulge, that this in turn led to a fuel line interaction with a spark.

But it’s been years since we went over all these things. All I remember is the one key piece of evidence, namely there was no explosive residue anywhere, only a minute trace of what could have been “pass through” residue, as if a missile “got away” from the Navy and went right through 800 without exploding.

I tend to agree. Who had the capability to shoot down an aircraft under these circumstances, and why would they do it?

Sorry - I don’t have time to read his book.

I was watching the news reports, there were hundreds of eye witnesses, they even showed a video of a rader image shown tracking a missle that hit the plane.

Make no mistake someone shot that plane down.

I think Jack mentioned a GA plane, like a Piper Arrow packed with explosives. I spoke with him when he was here in the Bay Area a couple of years ago, and I had connected him with a good friend, now passed, who was a senior TWA captain. He and his wife lost a close friend on TW800.

The fastest way to get him to go off like a skyrocket was to mention the words “Center fuel tank.”

I haven’t looked over the details in a while, but what happened is NOT what we heard.

You’re on the wrong track.

Sounds very logical. It’s not going to cover it on that case.

No way it was a Navy missile. I would literally believe little green men in a flying saucer did it before I would believe a Navy CG or DDG engaged, fired, and guided to intercept, then kept completely quiet about it. Aliens or Elvis on a flying unicorn are more likely.

????

The Russians wee driven out of Afghanistan by Osama's minions using stingers, shoulder fired missiles, knocking soviet military aircraft out of the air.

“You can’t keep an entire crew silent, not about something like this.”

The crew of the Navy warship that allegedly buried Osama bin Laden at sea seems to be quite tight lipped. Not one cell phone snapshot or video has appeared. No one from the ship has given a statement regarding the burial.

The press and the public seem satisfied with the absence of proof.

I have posted before what I know.

At the time TWA 800 went down, I was an aerospace engineer. I had been briefed on almost every missile either in the inventory or planned when I worked on SDI.

Based on what I know, the missiles were OURS. They were launched out of a single canister in a torpedo tube from a submerged sub.

The project I was briefed on had added a first stage to a shoulder fired missile to achieve greater altitude. Very importantly, the missile had a new sensor that would ignore chaff, flares, etc. and would home on the largest solid object in the sky. I cannot divulge how this worked, obviously.

The program went black after I was briefed.

I doubt that Clinton or even the SecDef were aware of the test. I doubt that the sub captain even knew what the engineers sent out of his torpedo tube that day because he had no need to know.

I could not say anything at the time because I had an active clearance.

The bottom line is the the press obediently lied to the American people. The Russians and Chicoms knew immediately what we had just tested.

Several nations now have similar systems for subs to protect themselves from aircraft.

Questions?

Agree,
But to the tin-foil hat crowd, the absence of proof proves how good the conspiracy cover-up is.

Air defense artillery has come a long way since the stinger missile. There are plenty of arrows that could have reached that flight.

They didn’t. A lot of eye witnesses on the news right after said they saw a rising streak before the explosion.

As for a ship, it could have been a smallish boat with only a few crew. It was not all that far off the coast.
