Rick Perry as Trump's VP makes good sense for me. Perry is a solid well vetted Patriotic American who has an excellent track record as former governor of Texas.
Here's why I think he's far and away the best pick for Trump's VP. What do the rest of you think?
Born: 4 March 1950
Birthplace: Paint Creek, Texas
Best known as: The governor of Texas, 2000-2015
Name at birth: James Richard Perry
Graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 with a degree in animal science.
He was a cargo pilot in the Air Force from 1972-77, and then became a cotton farmer with his father.
Handsome and charismatic, and a fifth-generation Texan, Rick Perry was elected to the Texas House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1984, from Texas District 64.
In 1989 Perry switched from the Democratic Party to the Republicans, and in 1990 was elected as the state's Agriculture Commissioner, serving for two full terms.
He ran successfully for lieutenant governor in 1998, taking office in 1999 under Governor George W. Bush.
Perry then became governor himself on 21 December 2000, after Bush was elected President of the United States.
Rick Perry was elected in his own right in 2002, and established himself as a favorite of the GOP's right wing.
Rick Perry has been consistently: anti-tax, anti-big government, anti-abortion, pro-business, evangelical, tough on crime (he vetoed a ban on the executions of mentally retarded prisoners in 2002), and an outspoken doubter of global warming.
He was reelected in 2006 and again in 2010; by the time he was succeeded by fellow Republican Greg Abbott in January of 2015, Perry had become the longest-serving governor in Texas history.
On a personal note:
Rick Perry married the former Anita Thigpen in 1982.
They have two children: a son, Griffin, and a daughter, Sydney.
According to the governors official state biography, Perry first met Anita Thigpen at a piano recital during their elementary school years
He was an Eagle Scout and wrote the 2008 book On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts are Worth Fighting For
His hometown, Paint Creek, is a small town near Abilene in Central Texas
Rick Perry is the author of the 2010 book Fed Up! Our Fight to Save America from Washington.
Air Force Pilot
Deep Aggie Roots
Eagle Scout Himself
Strong Leader Who Could Step In As President If Need Be
Great Family
Trump and Perry a Perfect Match
Big Pharma tells Captain Gardasil what to do. Ordering little girls be given vaccines they don’t need that pose a danger to their health. Just typical Rick, the big gubmint Socialist he’s always been.
I would rather pick my nose than pick Rick Perry!
“Let no one be mistaken Donald Trumps candidacy is a cancer on conservatism, and it must be clearly diagnosed, excised and discarded.”

No thank you.
Cervical CA is a killer, caused for the most part by a virus that girls get from boys. One could argue that boys should be vaccinated also, but I think I would want my high school daughter vaccinated.
I think you made your point, and I respect that.
You must live in Texas. I live way up in the Northwest, far from the scrutiny of what is happening on the Texas border. If Texans are seeing poor border control, why are they not screaming to high heaven? People need to raise hell!
oops, I missed that one, I guess that’s the end of this idea....
past criticism is one thing, expected in primary season... but some comments are too harsh and incendiary to be brought onboard the VP train....
Yes, that was very ugly.
On top of all his other issues mentioned upthread.
If you want to vaccinate you kid with a vaccine that only works on a small percentage of the target virus strains and is temporary, that is your choice. When governor good hair made it mandentory, that was nanny state crony capitalism.
Just one of his many offenses.
I agree
Isn’t he part of the Establishment for Open Borders too? Why would Donald Trump want him for VP? I agree NO WAY!! I don’t care how smart he is or whatever. He is part of them!
Amazing how much more common sense Donald Trump is on almost every issue vs your career politicians.
About the only nice thing I can say is I'd take him over an outright RAT like Jim Webb.
Nope, I’m in Tennessee. But thanks to open borders RINOs like Perry and Dubya (yup, BEFORE Zero’s time), my neighborhood has been flooded with illegals to the point that we might as well resemble Laredo. When Trump said these people were rapists and murderers, he was 100% right. Across the street from my house, an illegal here from Central America (came here under Dubya) tried to murder two police officers, and I got to hear the whole thing. That’s just one example. The print media in Nashville ignored it, since they want to paint illegals as meek victims of oppression and “racism” rather than the criminals and drain on our resources that they are.
I thought it was a bad April Fool’s joke for June.
newsmax gopusa wnd rawstory mediaite have it
wnd is usually ok. no breitbard no alex jones no daily caller no alphabet soups no wapo no guardian
Trump says things that make me mad, doesn't mean I won't support him.
But I'm sick of all the misrepresentations. 4 bankruptcies. 200 successful businesses and some damned impressive buildings, not for the faint of heart.
Way past my bedtime. Gotta quit for now.
The border agents in Texas are working real hard to control the illegal border crossings. Texas is pouring money into their enforcement agents.
I just read an article describing how undermanned the border agents are. They are being overwhelmed by the numbers coming in over the Texas-Mexico border. As one border agent describes, “On a good day, we catch approximately 30 to 40 percent of all crossers while the rest simply get away. In the RGV, we have been averaging around 10,000 apprehensions per week. That means we are losing well over 10,000 aliens per week.”
When Rick Perry was governor, he was spending about $200 million a year on border security. Last year, Republican governor, Greg Abbott, approved $800 million for border security over the next two years. Without a wall, $billions will be poured into border security. We need the wall.
We can win without Rick.
No!
