THE VISIT
A lady in a faded gingham dress and her husband, dressed in a homespun threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston, and walked timidly without an appointment into the president's outer office. The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods, country hicks had no business at Harvard and probably didn't even deserve to be in Cambridge. She frowned. "We want to see the president", the man said softly. "He'll be busy all day," the secretary snapped. "We'll wait," the lady replied. For hours, the secretary ignored them, hoping that the couple would finally become discouraged and go away. They didn't. And the secretary grew frustrated and finally decided to disturb the president, even though it was a chore she always regretted to do. "Maybe if they just see you for a few minutes, they'll leave," she told him. And he sighed in exasperation and nodded. Someone of his importance obviously didn't have the time to spend with them, but he detested gingham dresses and Homespun suits cluttering up his outer office. The president, stern-faced with dignity, strutted toward the couple. The lady told him, "We had a son that attended Harvard for one year. He loved Harvard. He was happy here. But about a year ago, he was accidentally killed. And my husband and I would like to erect a memorial to him, somewhere on campus". The president wasn't touched, he was shocked. "Madam," he said gruffly, "we can't put up a statue for every person who attended Harvard and died. If we did, this place would look like a cemetery". "Oh, no," the lady explained quickly, "We don't want to erect a statue. We thought we would like to give a building to Harvard. The president rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and homespun suit, then exclaimed, "A building! Do you have any earthly idea how much a building costs? We have over seven and a half million dollars in the physical plant at Harvard". For a moment the lady was silent. The president was pleased. He could get rid of them now. And the lady turned to her husband and said quietly, "Is that all it costs to start a University? Why don't we just start our own?" Her husband nodded. The president's face wilted in confusion and bewilderment, as Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stanford walked away, traveling to Palo Alto, California where they established the University that bears their name, a memorial to a son that Harvard no longer cared about. You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who they think can do nothing for them.

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Howdy, radu! How ya doin’ tonight? It was pretty here, if a bit warmer than I like.
Gonna hit the 100s next weekend. Glad I’m heading to OK to see kids. Hopefully, it’ll be cooler there!

Good evening, Ms Feather...*hugs*...and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Mom says her petunias are all doing well on the deck and don’t need to be watered today. Yesterday brought 3/10” of rain to the east side of town.
I got her a 6-pack while on my errands today. 2 are blooming and the flowers are purple and white. She will repot them tomorrow.

Howdy, LUV!
Still moving slowly but not quite as slowly as yesterday. Managed to make a run to the grocery store for some things we needed.
There were showers all around us today but we only got a sprinkle at the farm just before sundown. Looks like we might get a decent hit shortly, though. I hope so. The air is sooooooo thick with humidity it’s almost hard to breathe when outside. ugh!
Bummer it’s going to get so hot there next week. We’re going to cool off a bit after this system moves through tomorrow.

Glad your plants are doing well.
Be careful on the stairs, both up and down.
Thursday I had to walk down 4 flights of stairs at work because of a fire alarm....seems the lovely brats, with nothing to do with school out, thought pulling the mall wide alarm would be fun.
They did it again later in the afternoon. Thankfully I was off and at an appointment. Not looking forward to working in the mall while the kids are out of school. d:o(
I am not going to go down all those stairs until someone confirms the need...or, once down, I will go home.

Good evening, Pro, and a Blessed Lord's Day to you and yours.
And thanks....be right back. Need to feed Mom.

Sorry you’re moving slowly today. Did I miss that something happened?...or forgot? Sometimes I do that. LOL!
Hope you get the rain you need. I think we’re done for a while. Although, sometimes a summer storm will pop up with no warning. Those are sweet surprises!
Did you see the ad for DQ’s new FUNNEL CAKE!? I haven’t had the courage to get one, but they look aMAZing! :P

Woo-Hoo, Howdy!
I started my day over at Robins, she asked me if I could replace her garbage disposal, and even though my plumbing skills suck, we got it done! (Pats self on back).
Daughter came back from a hair appointment and we visited for awhile before she and Robin headed out shopping and I went home to enjoy my A/C, cuz it was HOT today, 100 or so and more HOT tomorrow.
How wuz your day? Howz the back doing?

I messed up my already bum back hauling the watering can to water flowers last week. It feels better today but I’ve been taking it easy so it doesn’t fire up again.
Not the first time; won’t be the last. LOL!
There’s a line of rain and thunderstorms closing in on us and IF it will hold together, we’ll get something out of it. It would be nice if we could get a good “light show” too. Camera is ready to go in hopes of decent lightning shots. :-)
No, I hadn’t heard about those funnel cakes! Great. Like we NEED another DQ treat to crave! ROTFL!

*Patting you on the back too* Good job! Nice you could get the garbage disposal replaced so she didn’t have to pay rip-off fees to a plumber to do it.
Glad you got see your daughter. Gee, you didn’t want to go shopping with them? LOL!
Ouch! 100 degrees? Yeah, that’s HOT. I feel for ya.
We’ll cool off into the 80s for the next week after the front gets through here tomorrow. That’s bearable.
Back’s doing better but I’m still taking it easy. Don’t want it to crank back up any time soon if I can help it.
