The PGA Tour has been going to Doral, Florida, for 55 straight years. From 1962 until 2006, it visited for the Doral Open, and then in 2007, it began hosting the WGC-Cadillac Championship, which continued until this past year. Fifty-five straight years of PGA Tour golf in Doral.
Well, we might have seen professional golf there for the last time -- at least in the immediate future -- when Adam Scott defeated Rory McIlroy and others at Trump National in March. That's because the PGA Tour has decided to pull one of its marquee events out of the course near Miami and move it to Mexico City for a WGC event in 2017.

During the telecast of the last tournament, the overtones were not promising. While the TV personalities would not say anything negative, you could tell that something was wrong. I suspect that they wanted to announce the new sponsor at the end of the tournament, but they had no new sponsor and everyone knew it except for the viewer. The grousing about Doral has been going on for years, even with the Trump makeover. The commish works for the players and I don’t think they want to keep coming back to Doral.
Mexico City doesn’t sound like a step up, but perhaps that’s the best deal they could come up with. They certainly want to open up the Latin market, but I would think that there are better places than one of the biggest ghettos in the world. Perhaps, Baghdad, open fairways, lots of bunkers courtesy of B-52s and no one will try to play out of the hazards, thereby speeding up play.
“Always thought golf was a sissy sport.”
Same here. Preferred tennis, a good all around workout.
Golf is a long walk spoiled by having to look for your balls.

Mexico City?
Com’on.
Mecca or NOTHING, baby.
That is Casey Martin. He coaches Oregon who play Texas today for the NCAA team championship.
I went there 3 times for work, and yes, it's the pits there.
I expect more than a few golfers will pull out because of prior commitments. Mexico City is a dangerous dump of a town. The PGA is going to regret this.
“We won't put up with it anymore!!!”
Thanks everyone....
I agree....Just for that, I will never play for the PGA. Ever!
The financial crisis knocked the stuffing out of golf as well and happened about the time of Tiger's misfortunes. It is a relatively expensive and time consuming game. I know of several courses in our region that have closed or have financial difficulty. If people have no interest in playing, they probably aren't going to watch. The big name courses are doing OK, but most of the courses I play are cutting corners. They can't raise rates, so they let the maintenance slide. Not sure how expanding to central and south America is going to stop the death spiral here.
The major guys surely will skip the event. Trump would be smart to hold his own event there.
Wait until there are rapes, murders, and kidnappings of players, staff, Press, and family members. It won’t be there again.
I have no idea what you’re trying to say here. WHy have the players not liked Doral?
Jack Nicklaus recently endorsed Trump
Calling him a choke artist is hitting below the belt. He is the most classy guy on the tour and what happened to him at Augusta could happen to anyone.
Well...you notice he’s not on the PGA tour anymore. He’s a club pro somewhere these days, I think.
He was not allowed to use one....................
That’s it...so he’s not a club pro these days. My mistake.
I have no idea why they didn’t like Doral, but those rumors have been kicking around for years. Certainly, the course was an issue, but that was supposed to be fixed. Note that Doral has had a top rated field for a long time.
