While Donald Trump has called on the GOP to become a workers party a development Sen. Jeff Sessions called for two years ago, ironically, in the pages of the National Review French has defended the idea that white working-class communities deserve to die.
Specifically, French wrote a piece in support of Kevin D. Williamson, who had said:
The truth about these dysfunctional, downscale communities is that they deserve to die. Economically, they are negative assets. Morally, they are indefensible. Forget all your cheap theatrical Bruce Springsteen crap. Forget your sanctimony about struggling Rust Belt factory towns and your conspiracy theories about the wily Orientals stealing our jobs. Forget your goddamned gypsum, and, if he has a problem with that, forget Ed Burke, too. The white American underclass is in thrall to a vicious, selfish culture whose main products are misery and used heroin needles. Donald Trumps speeches make them feel good. So does OxyContin. What they need isnt analgesics, literal or political. They need real opportunity, which means that they need real change, which means that they need U-Haul.
French insists that the devastation of the working-class livelihoods is unrelated to failed federal policies such as mass immigration:
[I] have seen the challenges of the white working-class first-hand. Simply put, Americans are killing themselves and destroying their families at an alarming rate. No one is making them do it. The economy isnt putting a bottle in their hand. Immigrants arent making them cheat on their wives or snort OxyContin. Obama isnt walking them into the lawyers office to force them to file a bogus disability claim.
When readers responded with outrage to Frenchs piece, French doubled down in a post entitled The Great White Working-Class Debate: Just Because Im Nasty Doesnt Mean Im Wrong.

If there is no work, they need to move. It is really that simple. Millions move to find work or to follow their job. We have phones and facetime and skype and airplanes now. They can move, but they choose to stay behind in a dying community filled with drugs and tons of welfare fraud. Bravo for you wishing them to rot.
Holy smokes, another limpdick JAG officer. JesusMary&Joseph does anybody serve as an enlisted man or a normal line officer any more?
Where did you read that?
According to French's NR bio, "David is a major in the United States Army Reserve (IRR). In 2007, he deployed to Iraq, serving in Diyala Province as Squadron Judge Advocate for the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, where he was awarded the Bronze Star."
Petraeus's XO during that time frame was Peter Mansoor, who retired with the rank of colonel and now teaches military history at Ohio State.
Start your own radio show and see how good and successful you are. Rush has done more for conservatism than you will ever do in 10 lifetimes.

Coal is dead in many ways. Our exports to China are down 50%, too, due to their plunging economy.
Those workers will need to move if they want any kind of future. Elections have consequences.
Coal also has lots of Thorium in it, enough to produce about 12 times the energy of actually burning the coal itself.
Coal isn’t dead; what is dead is the fiction that government on any level represents the people of this country.
“Exactly where are the lower skilled folks supposed to earn money for food and shelter?”
I don’t have an answer for this, but I don’t feel too badly because the best economists don’t have one either. It may be that in the medium-term (dystopian) future, there really will be a “minimum payment” from the government. In reality, we actually have this now, disguised as the network of safety nets, (theoretically) paid for by taxes from the working.
The US is not the only country with this problem. One of the causes of the “Arab Spring” were educated youths with no prospects and no future. Europe has had this problem for years, but socialism tends to mask it with better “safety nets” than we have.
Obama’s solution is: More immigration.
The man has done nothing for “conservatism” except shoot his mouth off and line his pockets. Hooray! He tickled your ears while illegal immigration manifestly increased and jobs were sucked out of the nation. Big f’ing deal.
“Coal also has lots of Thorium in it, enough to produce about 12 times the energy of actually burning the coal itself.”
True, and lots of rare earths too, but...
The land under my feet and in my state has enough uranium to power the US for hundreds of years. Unfortunately, it’s at a concentration that makes it impossible to recover. There is, however, enough to produce radon...enough so that you have to spend money ventilating your basement. So, there may be lots of something, the problem is making it economically recoverable.
If any good comes from this, the post-apocalyptic peoples who live in North America in the future will have a great, low-tech source of heat and energy :(.

You could say the same thing about Trump, but we’re still voting for him, right?
A William F. Buckley he is not.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with him -- to a point. There seems to be a lot of poor mental functioning going on.
I wondered if this is a bell curve issue, in much the same way as the ghettos. Or perhaps Social Darwinism. As Charles Murray suggested, those who will make it in this economy will probably be the hyper-creative or -analytical types.
It sounds easy to "pack up" and move somewhere else. But what if you lack the talent or skills? Believe me, I would be in the same boat. You can drop me in the middle of Google, but I will never be a techie.
I actually admire these salt-of-the-earth types. They're the ones who served in the army, police force, fire department, etc. -- the ones with civic spirit and loyalty to their country. That's why they feel betrayed; that's why someone like Trump appeals to them. He appreciates them. Everyone else finds them obsolete.
In this day and age, it's either circle the wagon or circle the drain. We will no longer have the luxury to come home from work, open a can of beer, and sit in front of the TV. Those kinds of jobs are disappearing. We're going to have to be constantly learning or evolving. There will be no "down time." But it is difficult to reinvent oneself totally when that part of the brain is lacking.
I speak for myself, as well. I worry about staying employed in a hyper-competitive world. If I were to lose my job, I would have a tough time getting hired because of a number of factors -- age, personality, intellect. I can move to another city, but I can't move away from myself.
..get a room already...
French is suicide by Kristol.
Leni
Perhaps, but not wrong. Trump has done nothing for the conservative cause prior to running this year. He’s been and continues to be a loud-mouth, which many people happen to appreciate. And he’s made himself a lot of money in his pre-political life.
Ain’t no one said it would be easy. Might be the hardest thing anyone can ever do. That does not give you (in general) and excuse not to do it.
Trump has been running for the Office since June, 16, 2015, and because Bill Kristol doesn't like Trump, the Establishment is going to allow this French guy, to slip in and cause The Republican Party to loose?
AS I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE MANY TIMES, THE GOP/RNC WILL SELF DESTRUCT AND BE NO MORE...I PERSONALLY WILL LEAVE THE PARTY AFTER 55 YEARS...
BILL KRISTOL IS SUCH A SISSY, CRY BABY..WAKE UP AMERICA..KRISTOL IS A NO BODY...AND HE IS GOING TO GET HIS A$$ HANDED TO HIM...AS WELL AS MR. FRENCH.
Last I read the guy hadn’t even decided whether he was going to actually run or not. Maybe he’s smarter than everyone is giving him credit for, he will decide not to and we can all breath a sigh of relief.
