CHICAGO (WLS) -- A group of veterans left for Washington, D.C., Sunday on a mission.
Two brothers who served in Vietnam are among those now fighting deportation. On Memorial Day, they will take their battle to stop the deportation of all veterans to the nation's capital.
A federal law allows the government to deport non-citizens who have committed crimes, even misdemeanors. Military families and veterans are not exempt.
The Valenzuela brothers served in Vietnam. Valente, a Bronze Star recipient, was a soldier in the Army. Manuel, was a Marine, while they fought for their country. The brothers are now waging a war against the policy after the Valenzuelas received deportation notices in 2009.
Years ago, the Valenzuelas pleaded guilty to misdemeanors. Manuel pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Valente pleaded guilty to domestic violence. The brothers were born in Mexico to a U.S.-born mother. They moved to America as toddlers. They were always told they were U.S. citizens.

According to many they are NBC that are eligible to become Presidents. But without doubt they are American citizens.
“The brothers were born in Mexico to a U.S.-born mother.”
Hold your horses. They are just as much American citizens as Ted Cruz. How can they be deported?
Serve honorably in the US military and you should be exempt from deportation. In fact, you should be able to expedite your naturalization.
They are born of an American...They have lived here most of their lives...They have fought for America...One is decorated for his bravery...
Obama administration says they have to go....
If only they had sneaked across the border at night, stole, raped, and murdered some Americans, Obama would’ve let them stay.....
Deport all Kenyans who can’t produce a genuine birth certificate!
Nothing in the story to suggest that. What other information do you have? When did they file the paperwork? Did they complete the process before they became criminals?
A transgender beaten to death in a homeless shelter and illegals in the military. The Ministry of Propaganda is busy on Memorial Day. If we just have them everything they wanted, this wouldn’t be happening!
Sorry, wrong thread.
Because even if their mother never filed the paperwork, Reagan made them citizens.
Then lobby for a change in law, if you think we need more dreamer criminals in the US.
In fact, you should be able to expedite your naturalization.
You can. https://www.uscis.gov/news/fact-sheets/naturalization-through-military-service-fact-sheet . There is, however, that pesky good character requirement.
Have a reference to an Executive Order on that? Because the immigration law has additional requirements.
Illegal aliens are allowed in this country in sanctuary cities. Two veterans who fought for this country with minor infractions are going to be departed? Born to an American mother in Mexico, is not this the same situation as Ted Cruz? What the hell is happening to this country?
Criminals? Disturbing the peace makes someone a criminal?
You must have missed the part where I said "serve HONORABLY." I doubt many "dreamer criminals" would serve at all, let alone honorably. I would reserve the exemption for those who have proven their devotion to their adopted country.
Being born to an American mother makes them American, does it not???
One can serve honorably, and still be a criminal.
Perfect story for the globalist cheap labor crowd.
This is such a stupid news blurb. It doesn’t even give the facts of their citizenship. Their mother was American. They were born in Mexico. Well? How are they not citizens? What is the circumstance?
Next, “they were always told they were American citizens.” Well, was that true? The article states it like that but says no refutation or anything about it.
And finally, why would we be rushing to deport veteran illegals who earn their keep FIRST when we have 20 million other illegals in the country? The only benefit to this is pity for illegals.
Looks like their biggest crime is that they served the Nation...
I was a security officer for quite a while and processed clearances - you'd be surprised at how many discovered that their mother's lied to them and told them they were citizens. A number were both embarrassed and really upset for being lied to for their whole lives. Serving honorably might be considered special circumstances but these two seem to be legal anyway.
