Feds Order Colleges to Stop Checking Criminal/School Discipline History Because it Discriminates Against Minorities
The Obama administration has ordered the nation’s colleges and universities to stop asking applicants about criminal and school disciplinary history because it discriminates against minorities. Institutions are also being asked to offer those with criminal records special support services such as counseling, mentoring and legal aid once enrolled. The government’s official term for these perspective students is “justice-involved individuals” and the new directive aims to remove barriers to higher education for the overwhelmingly minority population that’s had encounters with the law or disciplinary issues through high school.
Instructions are outlined in a cumbersome document (Beyond the Box) issued by the U.S Department of Education (ED) this month. It says that “data show plainly that people of color are more likely to come in contact with the justice system due, in part, to punitive school disciplinary policies that disproportionately impact certain student groups and racial profiling.” Because education can be a powerful pathway to transition out of prison and into the workforce, it’s critical to ensure that admissions practices don’t disproportionately disadvantage justice involved individuals, the directive states. Colleges and universities should also refrain from inquiring about a student’s school disciplinary history—including past academic dishonesty—because that too discriminates against minorities. Civil rights data compiled by ED show “black students are suspended and expelled at a rate three times greater than white students and often for the same types of infractions.”

If colleges and universities are banned from asking applicants about criminal records, then how are they to determine who qualifies for counseling and support services?
My thoughts as well.
This would represent a huge shift in liability and change many established legal responsibilities for these Institutions.
Maybe, Obama will "Order" Gun sellers to stop checking criminal history next.
It would be so embarrassing to be an upstanding man who came from one of these minority cultures. I couldn’t imagine.
If someone sincerely believed that they were as good as me, they would demand to be held to the same standard as myself.

It's insulting to all black kids who aren't gang bangers, rapists and criminals.
And those black kids who got into college the old fashion way - by being decent people and working hard? What does this malarkey do to them? Over time it will mark them as undesirable ... because sadistically when there's a 'problem' in the class room it'll be because a black kid's at it again.
If the exception was made only for white southern kids who had constant run ins with the law... the same thing would happen. Other students would hear the accent and want to get as far away from the possibly violent ones as possible.
It might look like this will help young black kids but it will hurt them instead.

So the feds are saying that law breaking and criminality are inherent behavioral patterns of minorities.
Those guys are usually criminals already. They just get away with their crimes by claiming that the victims are crazy.
I always check my incoming students against the county’s data-base of court cases, arrests and convictions.
Instead of asking the obvious: why are these minorities getting into such trouble, and what can be proffered in order to reverse the trend?
The minorities may accept our liberal pity parties when the alternative is to just starve, but they find them oddly demeaning. We need to rediscover the meaning of “hand up, not just hand out.” And on a private level, so it can’t be gamed by Caesar and Caesar’s sycophants.
It would be how God expects people to reason.

Now, 0b0z0 wants even that small, underrepresentative segment of punished troublemakers to be pardoned and counseled -- because punishing them for their extreme, feral behavior -- is "racist"!!!
