Judge temporarily blocks state from axing Planned Parenthood money
Columbus Dispatch ^

A federal judge temporarily stopped the Ohio Department of Health from stripping more than $1 million from Planned Parenthood. A law, passed by mostly GOP legislators and signed by Republican Gov. John Kasich, would divert about $1.4 million in taxpayer money from Planned Parenthood to health departments for programs like HIV testing and sex education.

I know; I am on your side. The case must have been made that cutting the funding was going to make abortions unavailable. And the judge thought he would save it from going however many more steps to the SCOTUS by just blocking the state from defunding.

Ohio Ping!

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2016/05/23/Planned_Parenthood_ruling.html

U.S. District Court Judge Michael Barrett of Cincinnati barred Ohio Department of Health Director Richard Hodges from enforcing a defunding law approved by Republican lawmakers and signed by GOP Gov. John Kasich that was to have taken effect today.

Ruling that Planned Parenthood has demonstrated a “likelihood of success” in winning its legal action, Barrett granted a temporary restraining order through June 6 and ordered the state to reinstate its terminated contracts with the group.

[ ]

Funding cut from Planned Parenthood was to be redirected to other health clinics in Ohio. Supporters say it would help provide broader health care coverage across the state, but opponents argued that many of those clinics do not have the services or capacity to do what Planned Parenthood does.

[ ]

State funds are forbidden from being used toward abortions. Three Planned Parenthood clinics performed about 30 percent (6,237) of the 21,186 abortions performed in Ohio in 2014 — and 36 percent in Franklin County.

They can’t and the state has every right to ignore the ruling and the AG should say we will not even humor the suite by answering it. It is state money and under the states jurisdiction.

The Judge should be hauled into state court in shackles.

It is murder in every case. It is just that this victim put up more of a vocal struggle.

How can a federal judge rule that they MUST fund PP?

“How does a federal judge have jurisdiction, over the budget and spending of the state of Ohio? How does the judge have any controlling legal authority, to oversee the spending, based on a law duly passed by the state legislature and signed by their governor???”

I was just wondering the same things.

If this isn’t taxation without representation, what is?

Curious how a federal judge can stop this.

Easy. Obama appoints judge. Judge does his bidding. Our side caves. Happens every day.

Too bad you don’t see the truth...maybe someday. Yet in the meantime, being the past 36 years, moms murder their children to the tune of 1.25 little boys and girls per second.

What jurisdiction does a federal judge have over state financial allocations?

You have posed that question a lot more politely than this Ohio taxpayer was about to. Who the **** does this SOB think he is? He should be ignored.

I agree.

And as much as a POS as Kasich is, he should use his frickin' powers as the GOVERNOR of Ohio to tell this a$$hole to piss up a rope.

I *might* respect Kasich a bit if so.

Jeez, man, you have the people of Ohio behind you.

Show some backbone!
