Democrats knew a general election battle between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump would be rough, but many never considered the potential of a nailbiter.
During a primary in which Trump usurped the GOP establishment, alienated crucial sectors of the general electorate on issues like immigration and abortion and dinged his own approval ratings, many Democrats salivated at talk of a November duel with the billionaire.
Now, as Trump prepares for a general election showdown, veteran Democrats warn there is little room for complacency.
"It will be close," said Mark Alderman, a veteran Democratic Party fundraiser who worked on President Barack Obama's transition team.

Thanks, ComputerGuy.
We are trying to get this quarter finished before the 1st.
Our Donors are the greatest!
They wish!
#1 ~ “It may be a nailbiter for Hillary...”
Consider the source of this shameless propaganda - CNN - Ha! The Clinton News Network refuses to acknowledge its irrelevance even as they rapidly slip deeper in their ratings.
Journalistic cognitive dissonance?
No. It will be an ass kicking!
Go Trump!
I agree. The title of the referenced article is political propaganda against Trump.
Im in California and I feel NO energy for Hillary here.
I have seen ZERO bumper stickers for her.
It will be a nail-biter for me, even if Trump wins all 57 states by a 20% margin. The mere possibility of Hillary in the Oval Office takes my blood pressure to quadruple digits.
No.
The kleptodemocrats (the Uncle Tom Party)will lose this one. It is very, very difficult for one party to keep the presidency for more than 8 years at a stretch. That’s why there were what, 17 candidates on the gop side?
(And that’s also why Teddy the narcissist won”t give it a rest: either he gets it now, or he waits for 16 years. But I digress....)
The rat faction of the uniparty also realizes that their chances of pulling off a win this time is notso hotso. The same dynamic is at work for the rats as it was in 96 for the gop. So they”re running piaps because it’s her turn, she’s been loyal, and it’s a good way to gently send her off to the glue factory.
Oh, no. It needs to be Cankles. Since Comey is nothing but Obama's buttboy, it's not likely HilLIARy's treason will lead to any indictment.
So we're only left with the presidential debate where there's the possibility that, on hearing some of Trump's zingers, she'll stroke out.
I just don’t seem them running two Anglos; the problem with the victim politics of the Dems is that you can’t take back what the mob has been given. They have to run a token black somewhere on the ticket (whether or not the top of the ticket is Hillary); she doesn’t inspire the ‘hood-rats.
Anything CNN sucks.
Yeah, it was close for Team Baby Harp Seal this spring up in Canada, too.
Maybe Team Clinton should have sent some of their people to get tips from the baby Harp seals on what to do when Trump and his people come after them...
I think Clinton might do worse than McGovern.
I’m in a very Democrat part of a very Democrat state: Maryland. Bernie stickers and signs on lots of cars and lawns; but we still haven’t noticed a single ‘Hillary’ sign.
-JT
Here in my part of Michigan, There are tons of Bernie signs and bumper stickers all over the place.
It’s almost like Hillary isnt even a candidate.
> I think Trumps victory margin against Hillary will be WIDER than for Bernie.
I agree. I think as many as one in 4 Dems could cross over to Trump if Clinton is the Dem nominee, and independents hate her guts just as much as Republicans do.
NY polls close at 9PM.
If Trump really crushes H?, the whole thing could be over by 10 EST.
